Royce Gracie vs Matt Hughes 2
I always thought it was something wrong with Royce Gracie when he fought Matt Hughes. He gives a reason as to why he lost:
"MMAWeekly: Do you want a rematch with Matt Hughes?
Royce Gracie: Of course
MMAWeekly: Are you in negotiations with the UFC to make this fight happen?
Royce Gracie: We are talking to them. We shall see.
MMAWeekly: Touching on Hughes, did you learn anything from the fight? Did he surprise you?
Royce Gracie: No, we knew what he was planning to do. We worked out his gameplan before the fight, and he did exactly what we expected. I over-trained for the fight. That was all. I started training too much, too hard, for too long. He did exactly what we expected."
I think it would definately be a different fight the next go around. IMO Royce has fought much better ground fighters and won. I'm not saying Royce would win, but I'm sure that wasn't the Royce we all know in that fight.
Opinions?

Royce got decimated, and now he makes excuses after the loss. The same outcome would happen if they fought again.

I really do not want to see it. There is no way Royce would beat Hughes IMO. Hughes is just too strong, too good of a wrestler, and would probably just run through Royce again. Royce is 40 with poor wrestling, poor striking, and only BJJ. Hughes is a freak of nature when it comes to strenght, cardio, determination. If Royce was to come back I would like to see him fight someone he has a good chance at so that he can go out on top. Have him fight some guy that he can put a submission clinic.

Yeah, there is no way Royce's contribution to MMA can be overstated, but Matt Hughes represents the evolution of the sport. It's a completely different game from the time of Royce's domination.

I think Royce would have benifited from a lot of weight training. His BJJ is incredible but I do think stregth might of played a big factor in that fight. But how do you explain him fighting a very impressive fight with Hidehiko Yoshida who is a HW??

I would like to see Royce come back and fight again, but please, please, not with MH.
He would still be a draw and would be fun to watch against someone else. I think a PPV rematch with Hughes would be a bad business move that Zuffa would not make.
