Best defense against MT clinch...
So I'm in class today and were drilling clinch defense ie keep arm out to avoid knee etc but the guy I was drilling with had a super strong clinch I mean I'm 250 he was 185 and I couldn't get out of it! He just kept tagging me with soft elbows when i went to defend against that,he threw the knees... confused the shit out of me... must a been like how Rich felt lol
Anybody gotta any experience or suggestions? it was pretty frustrating

i dunno that clinch is so awkward IMO and I know I misspelt that word.
uppercuts to the stomache maybe?
why cant u just guard your chin though?

i havent reached the point of working on the clinch yet in MT class
but from what i've seen, and what i know, using the wrestling clinch to get out of the Thai clinch is extremely useful. get over/unders, or double underhooks, to close the space. without space, you cant throw power in the knees or elbows, and you can work on either pushing him away, or taking him down

if you guard the chin, they throw knees to the body until you drop to cover your ribs.
and during the clinch, you move around and pull your opponent around by the neck so he cant use boxing body shots because he has no stable center of gravity to throw the punches from

hell yeah.
thats why its the most important position in MT, and can be used to dominate guys that could be world class boxers or kickboxers, but dont know the clinch

A Good Double Collar Tie Clinch is very hard to break...
I have a been in it with a couple of guys that have been doing it for years and I take a beating lol. They even apply 1 sided clinches...
I think the best defense is try to push up on their elbows and push them clear of the clinch. But sometimes if their elbows are not together enough I can actually get in and bear hug them for a trip takedown..but pushing up on the elbows is what is taught.

pick a side you prefer and do a forward roll, or you can simply block his upper cuts or knees till he realizes he's not doing any damage

From my limited knowledge (and old one at that) the best thing to do is to keep your chin high and stay close to his hip so there isn't enough room for him use the knee. but if the other is really good in the clinch, I know there is a move you can do but I wouldnt recommend using it until it has become a second nature.
It is quite basic. You push the opponent's hip with BOTH hands as hard as possible, duck under and pull out. This is a risky move though, as if not done right, your opponent will get a clean knee to your face and you are only helping him by moving your head down.
