How different would the world be if Bruce Lee had lived?
This is my last Bruce Lee topic. As you all know, Bruce Lee was quickly becoming a sensation in the west with the release of Enter the Dragon, the first big budget American Kung Fu flick in '73, made by Warner Bros. Unfortunately he died a short while before the film hit the theatres.
But this sparked the Bruce Lee craze in the west, and as you may or may not know, he had a wide range of ideas for more martial arts movies which he wanted to bring to the audience. He didn't finish Game of Death but that looked to be on its way to surpassing his other 3 movies made by Golden Harvest which were box office hits in the Orient.
How do you think Martial Arts cinema would've been if Lee had lived? We had a few Chuck Norris films, a bit of Van Damme, a bit of Seagal, and alot of comedy Kung Fu from Jackie Chan, and a couple of flicks from newcomer Tony Jaa. But really, martial arts cinema was and is pretty much dead here in North America.
With the success of Enter the Dragon, would we have seen Bruce really ignite the industy if he had lived? My guess is, Bruce would've been bombarded with offers from the biggest studios and producers, after they saw the box office hit Enter the Dragon. I think martial arts would be even bigger than it is now, and martial arts schools would've expanded with many young kids joining.
What do you think?
