Brett Rogers vs. Paul Buentello to be added to Nov. 8 EliteXC show

A clash of heavyweight titans Brett “The Grim” Rogers and Paul “The Head Hunter” Buentello is expected to be officially announced by EliteXC as having been added to its Nov. 8 event at the Reno Events Center in Reno, Nevada.

FiveOuncesOfPain.com confirmed the news with Rogers’ trainer, Mike Reilly of Team Bison in St. Paul, MN earlier this morning. Reilly indicated that bout agreements are expected to be signed within the next few days but that verbal commitments from both fighters have already been secured.

“Brett is very excited to be getting back into the cage after such a long layoff and is excited to be taking on such a great opponent,” Reilly told Five Ounces of Pain. “Paul presents the biggest test of Brett’s career. He’s a great fighter and we have a ton of respect for him and we’re really excited to step up to that next level challenge.”

Rogers last competed on May 31 during EliteXC’s “Primetime” event in Newark, N.J. Fighting Jon Murphy in what will go down as the first-ever mixed martial arts fight ever broadcast on primetime network television in the U.S., Rogers improved to 8-0 following a first round TKO over the former Syracuse University linebacker.

Buentello is a veteran of both the UFC and Strikeforce promotions and had been scheduled to fight former IFL heavyweight champion Roy Nelson on Oct. 11 under the Affliction Entertainment banner until the card had to be postponed.

Buentello, 26-10, last competed during Affliction’s debut event on July 19 in Anaheim, Calif. where he recorded a unanimous decision victory over Gary Goodridge.

The addition of Rogers vs. Buentello means that a planned 140 pound female attraction between Kaitlin Young and Sarah Kaufman will be relegated to the non-televised undercard.

EliteXC’s Nov. 8 “Night of Champions” event will be televised on SHOWTIME and will feature EliteXC middleweight champion Robbie Lawler defending his title vs. Joey Villasenor along with Eddie Alvarez and Nick Diaz squaring off against each other for the vacant EliteXC lightweight title. The show will also feature Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante taking on a yet-to-be-named opponent and an opening bout between Scott Smith and former Cuban Olympic Judoka Hector Lombard.

I have to pull for Buentello here. All of the in-cage dancing after Rogers' win in May was embarassing. It was something I hope that I never have to see again. That and the absurd marijuana-reference-laced post about Kimbo have earned Rogers a spot on my "$hit list".

I thought Feijao was fighting Cyrille Diabate? Wasn't that fight confirmed? Or was it just a strong rumour?

Can't fucking WAIT for this one, though. I've got Showtime, so big up's to me! Card is shaping up great.

Im sure I heard that Diabate turned down the fight with Feijao as he never felt he had enough time to train for such an important fight. im looking forward to that fight in the future though.
