GSP ready for Penn, is Silva next?
Quote:
UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre won his fight with UFC lightweight champion BJ Penn by a razor’s edge.
Their UFC 58 battle was another example in a running debate amongst mixed martial arts fans – should the most damaged fighter be declared the loser? St. Pierre definitely lost in that department – he spent a night in a Las Vegas hospital, badly banged up – but two judges ruled he had come out ahead on points, giving him the 29-28 nod.
Two-and-a-half years removed from that important bout, St. Pierre wants to eliminate all the "what ifs." In a recent video interview with MMAWeekly.com, he spoke about fighting Penn for a second time.
“I’m a different fighter than I used to be,” he said. “And he is as well. This time, I want to take him out. I don’t want to go to a decision. I want to finish him.”
The fight is not signed yet, but St. Pierre thinks it will be sometime in the next week.
He left for Albuquerque, N.M. to get some training in with Greg Jackson’s camp. Right now, he’s gathering information from a variety of sources before putting it all together in an MMA-only environment.
St. Pierre’s countryman and teammate, Patrick Cote, is neck deep in his preparation for Anderson Silva at UFC 90. The fight poses an interesting question for St. Pierre’s future. He has previously said he would be open to going up a weight division to face Silva. Given he won’t fight his teammate, would another Penn victory push him towards the middleweight champion?
“A lot of people have been challenging me so far,” he said. “I have a lot of friends at 185. To tell you the truth, I’m not afraid of challenging nobody at 185. I’m very confident in myself.
“I think I can do pretty well (against Silva). I think I’m a different fighter than all the guys who have fought him in the past. There’s only one way to find out.”
These are the questions for three champions dominant in their respective weight groups.
St. Pierre says a lot of stars would have to be in alignment for a Silva fight to happen, and Penn is more than enough for now. If and when they square off on the 31st of January, St. Pierre wants to be the one doing the most damage.
“It’s a fight that everybody wants to see, including myself,” he said.

I think I'll be putting my money on GSP vs. Penn, but not against Silva.

penn has put on good showings in his 185 fights, and i'd love to see it. georges, i'm just not sure he could hang with anderson striking-wise.
wouldn't it be something if bj beat st. pierre then went on to tap anderson to a flying scissor heelhook?
hey, i guy can dream, can't he?

might just be me, but i think GSP COULD beat silva. imo he'd be a lot faster to avoid the big strikes, and could do what hendo did in the irst round. it's a long shot, yes, but very possible

what 185 fights? He's fought no one relevant in the 185 lb picture, and is 1-2 at 170 in his last 3 fights. His only win there is ancient history, forget about Penn at 185.

he lost a split to gsp which many of us believe he won. then got beat by Hughes well idk if you used to watch fights but Hughes was a very tough fighter. and Penn sub'd Hughes to take his belt in his last ufc before gsp.
not bad loses for penn.
and Penn at almost any weight class would be dangerous. i dont believe he would beat Silva but he would give him some trouble imo

He won a round with an eye poke and even that was overrated in what he did. He then was out worked and out fought for the remaining two rounds, and deserved to lose that decision. He then got an unearned title shot at Hughes and got his ass whooped by Hughes, and ran like a chump down to 55, fought guys GSP was wiping his ass with 3 years ago in Sherk, and then some how thinks he deserves shots over Alves, Diego, Kos, etc. It's a joke. lets see him earn something.
Penn is no threat to Silva, and much less of a threat than GSP is to Silva.
GSP's wrestling is very real threat to Anderson Silva. Penn has no area that he is a threat. Anderson would drop kicks off his fat head at will, Penn would be Knocked the fuck out in minutes. I would love to see it. Even if Penn loses to GSP which he will let Anderson dismantle him.

this thread has me remembering the original ufc. who is the toughest fighter out there period. i like the weight classes and on one hand i would like to see thrien of a great champion while the rest of mma searches and strives to beat them. on the other hand anyone would be crazy not to want to see a match up of any of the three,( bj,gsp and silva) . ive got to say unless anderson silva makes some huge mistakes he will be champ for a long time. his abilities, sportsmanship and determination to be the greatest fighter in mma history i think has earned him great respect and rightfully so.long live the king!
