Though he came in as one of the most experienced contenders for the light heavyweight contract on the upcoming eighth season of "The Ultimate Fighter," Jason Guida didn't even get a chance to compete on the show after missing weight for his first fight.
Multiple sources confirmed the story with
MMARated.com this week.
Guida arrived heavy at the first day of filming because he believed that - unlike on the recent TUF 7 - contestants would not have to fight their way onto the final cast for this season.
When it was revealed that the fighters would in fact have to square off immediately to earn a spot in the house, Guida was unable to make the 205-pound limit necessary to compete, sources say. One source told us that he thought Guida’s inability to cut the weight would be used to add some drama to an early episode, comparing it to Gabe Rudiger’s unflattering exit when he was unable to make weight during TUF 5.
The older brother of Clay Guida, a UFC lightweight, Jason Guida came into the show with a 17-17 record fighting as a light heavyweight and middleweight. He last competed on the inaugural Adrenaline MMA show in June, losing via guillotine choke to Mike Russo.
No word on who replaced Guida in the fight he was scheduled to compete in. The initial casting call for this season included 16 light heavyweights and 16 lightweights. The full cast has already been reported as follows:
Light Heavyweights: Ryan Bader, Antwain Britt, Jules Bruchez, Lance Evans, Karen Grigoryan, Jason Guida, Ryan Jimmo, Kyle Kingsbury, Tom Lawlor, Ryan Lopez, Vinicius Magalhaes, Eric Magee, Eliot Marshall, Sean O’Connell, Shane Primm, Krzysztof Soszynski.
Lightweights: Jose Aguilar, Fernando Bernstein, Junie Allen Browning, Rolando Delgado, Joseph Duarte, Charles Diaz, Efrain Escudero, Brandon Garner, David Kaplan, Brian McLaughlin, Wesley Murch, Shane Nelson, Phillipe Nover, Ido Pariente, John Polakowski, George Roop.
