From USA Today:
I read recently that Tito supposedly is negotiating with UFC again. If that's the case, how did that come about?
As part of his contract, he goes out and ... I don't know, something to do with his contract, but he's still got his foot in the door with his contract. As part of our business practice in this crazy world these days, we — let me think how I can word this to you.
Take your time.
Yeah, probably going to have to.
I always say, we make this thing look a lot easier than it really is, and we're definitely not going to make it easy for anybody else. We're going to make things tough for other people.
It sounds like you're saying basically you have certain negotiation rights with Tito.
Yup, and I'm going take them.
Aw shit, you dun messed w/ the wrong motherfuckers, Tito. This really doesn't surprise me. Zuffa makes it common practice to stop fighters who want to fight elsewhere from doing so.
They did it with Vera, they did it with AA, they are still doing it with Couture, and now it looks like they are doing it to Tito. At this rate Roger Huerta better pray that he isn't still on Dana's shit list come negotiation time.
The funniest thing about this is that Dana has already said he doesn't plan on renegotiating with Tito. So basically, he is just doing this out of spite. Gotta love Dana. No seriously, you have to, otherwise you get fucked.

Now that Dana knows that Affliction wants Tito and Tito want's to build a company up to compete with the UFC, he is goign to force Affliction to pay top dollar if they want Tito lol
I love that eh was looking for a nice way to say "we are doing it to fuck over affliction"

I don't think it is a hold on Tito's contract more so that the UFC has the right to match any offer that is out there. And if Tito is being offered say 500k to fight for Affliction and that's it, the UFC can match that easily as Tito's last contract had him earning just under 900k per fight.

Yeah I assume that is what it is as well. The UFC will just keep matching Afflictions offers untileither Affliction gives up or the price is so high that it is just as easy to let Affliction have him for way too much money

I don't really think Affliction is interested in giving Tito the kind of cash he wants.

Well I also don't think Affliction made a real offer to Tito based on what Affliction said. They said that Tito had made an offer that was just out of the question. They didn't even mention a counter offer.
I am willing to bet that the way the UFC's contract is worded that even if Affliction did give Tito some business control or what not, that UFC just has to match the financial numbers and throwing in PPV buys can make that pretty easy.
Tito shouldn't worry about growing a company anymore. He should think about trying to fight for the top dollar and then when he decides he is done, try to do something with the UFC - be it announcing, talent scouting, something.
The reason why AA was let go was the UFC obviously didn't feel that AA was worth 800k. But Tito getting 800k from Affliction - the UFC already has that on the table.

Are you including PPV numbers in his pay? Because I am pretty sure not even Chuck gets 800k per fight in just fight pay from the UFC?

Yes I am including PPV numbers. Tito's book tells us how much he made for his last fight.
And Chuck gets a base pay of $500k plus PPV buys so you know he is getting more than 1 mil per fight if Tito was getting $240+ PPV.

I realize this may be sort of off topic, but I still feel it's relevant to the conversation at hand.
This issue with Tito shouldn't even be going on. Is he difficult to work with, sure. Is he a dickhead? Most of the time. Is he still a talented fighter, that is highly marketable, and capable of putting asses in seats, and money in everyone's pocket? Damn skippy.
So I think what needs to happen is that the UFC rethinks their stance on some of these kinds of things. Just because a fighter loses 1, 2, or even 3 matches, it doesn't mean they are washed up, out of their league, or should be thrown to the curb.
Think about it. Wandy loses 3 straight, and goes into his fight with Jardine with his back to the wall. Everyone sayin if he didn't pull it off that he was in jeapordy of losing his job.
WHAT!? Are people that fucking retarded? IT WAS WANDERLEI FUCKING SILVA! THE AXE MURDERER!
I'd continue, but I think I might explode. I'd also wager you guys get my point, and probably feel the same way.
