Why don't people like Matt Hughes?

For the past several years I thought Matt Hughes was absolutely the best champion the UFC had ever seen.

Initially, after a title fight he would stay modest and say all the politically correct language.

Then, lately, when he started with what I call his “Fight Promotion” antics, when he crossed the line from being confident to just out and out egotistical (one example was his treatment of GSP on the TUF series) it seemed his head swelled and I started seeing a side I didn’t care for. Yes, he IS the undisputed WW Champion, and he’s fought and won all comers and he could probably take all comers from any other organization (yes, I think he’s that good), but I guess I’m just old fashioned and would prefer his mannered confidence to his unbecoming arrogance.

Just me 2 cents.

I didn't think that Matt did anythig that bad to GSP on the show. I mean, if anything, I thought GSP was being a little ridiculous. He wanted to leave every time Matt was around and was trying to ignore him as much as possible. Matt was just going with the flow.

Are you saying you have NOT noticed any change in his behavior from when he won the Campionship and now?????

Hughes is the MAN. How can you not like him unless you are jealous of him. He speaks the truth. Doesnt bullshit people and for once hes a fighting champ. He didnt run away like Penns sorry ass. as far as MMA fighters hes the MAN. @ WW. but oh well you guys have your opinion and it freakin SUCKS ASS

Read my post. I, too, think he's the man. I'm saying I've seen a change in him from when he won the Championship and NOW.

I can see how people mistake his confidence for cockiness, but I imagine its hard not to be a little cocky after you beat almost EVERYONE you've ever faced... He may get beat by GSP next, but I don't care, GSP is going to pick up where Matt left off as being a great, dominant champion. He has shown the definition of a true fighter and champion. He fights more than any of the other champions in the UFC, and he fights the best possible challenger at the time. He doesn't back down from any challenge and he always finds a way to pull it out. In my opinion(whether anyone agrees or not), Matt Hughes is the greatest champion the UFC has had SO FAR. I feel he deserves to be a hall of famer and shown respect for everything he's done in the sport...

Just my opinion though...

Isn't that a prerequisite when you are a champ? Dana states the obvious and we take it as if it is something great. Of course these guys dont turn down a fight. None of the Top-tier fighters turn down fights. Its not a special thing.

Plus, Hughes would get a lot more respect if the quality of people that he fought were better.

I have noticed a change in him. I was just saying that I did not think his actions on TUF were as bad as everyone is saying they were.

I’m not jealous of him. I think he deserves all his titles and especially all the wins he has EARNED. I’m glad to see an MMA fighter make it financially especially since, for the most part, the UFC doesn’t pay like it should..

I JUST THINK HE’S CHANGED from confidence to arrogance SINCE WINNING THE TITLE.
