World Rankings - August 2008

The latest MMAWeekly World MMA Rankings were released on Wednesday, August 27. This system ranks the Top 10 MMA fighters from all across the world in each of the six most widely accepted weight classes.

Taken into consideration are a fighter's performance in addition to his win-loss record, head-to-head and common opponents, difficulty of opponents, and numerous other factors in what is the most comprehensive rankings system in the sport.

Fighters who are currently serving drug-related suspensions are not eligible for Top 10 consideration until they have fought one time after the completion of their suspension.

Fighters must also have competed within the past 12 months in order to be eligible for Top 10 consideration. It has now been 12 months since embattled Ultimate Fighting Championship heavyweight champion Randy Couture has competed. He is subsequently ineligible until such time as he returns to competition.

Also of note, Masakazu Imanari has moved out of the featherweight division and begun competing in the 135-pound bantamweight division. He thus relinquishes his eligibility in the featherweight division.

Yeah I dont like that either. He's only lost once in the middleweight division since winning the title. His loss was to A. Silva and who hasn't lost to him recently. I think Henderson is better than Lawler. I wouldn't put him lower than 4.

It funny how Couture is off this list now.

Shogun will be off next month too. Ouch. He wont be on til probably January of 09. That sucks.

Its my opinion. and i'm an idiot.

Anyway, it looks about right and concurrent to a lot of other lists. But, these lists are always based on who beat who recently and don't count the larger picture...I mean Forrest as the number one LW? Yeah until his next fight...same goes for Jackson's place as #2 and Shoguns and Liddels and Fitch's and Sylvias...etc

Ur right he has but that was also 5 years ago. It would definitely be a more intriguing matchup now.

Actually Henderson is 0-2 in his last 2 mw fights. His inactivity at MW, plus he has back to back losses at MW, is keeping him down so low. A loss in his next fight will completely take him out.

We all know Hendo is better then most on the list ahead of him, but he hasn't fought at MW much lately an the other guys have an they are winning.
