They will make Rich work his way back up to a title fight. He got absolutely owned in that fight and he is having surgery tomorrow to repair his nose that is sitting on his right cheek bone at the moment.
It is going to take some time for him to come back. Look at what just happened to him after taking all of that time off to heal, he is goign to want to fight some cans to to warm up with and it will help for his confidence adn marketability. If and when he gets a rematch, if he gets owned similar to his last fight I really don't know what his UFC future will entail as I don;t know if he will be satisfied being #2 and if Dana does what they plan on doing in 3 years and that is going global, Franklin will no longer even be #2 if they pickup any of the top ranked MW in the world.
I am not "writing him off" as some have been bitching about, I am just foreseeing the possibilities and they seem pretty logical right now.
He really needs to focus on his striking accuracy and learn how to get out of a Thai clinch for shit's sake. A well rounded fighter like Rich that does not have a deadly discipline will fall short far more often than not when faced with top ranked competition be it Silva and his laser like accuracy, Filho and his GNP and sub game, Lindland and his wrestling, Hendo and his wrestling and Kang and his laser like accuracy.
Those guys all have a discipline in which they are world class at, Rich at this point really does not posess a world class quality, he is good-great at everything (accept wrestling) but that can only beat goood-great fighters.
