From what I remember a sample size of people are offered a special box that tracks what you watch. They already have your family's info as far as ages. It is only a sample and it it then multiplied. So while a good estimate, it is not 100% accurate. Quoting Vince Vaughn in Anchorman "You know those ratings are flawed! You know those ratings are flawed!!"
