Anyone else notice how dead was the crowd when he beating Rich so bad? And after he won? That arena went dead when the fight stopped. I guess Rich wasn't expecting those knees. I hope he gets better soon, he'll be ready for him next time althought thats not going to happend for a while.

Hey...no matter how much all of the "MMA Fundamentalists" don't like it, the UFC is an AMERICAN organization. We speak english in America...I'm just saying that if I were the president of the UFC I would encourage my Champs to speak english. GSP is a great example...gotta try.

The english component is another reason that Rich's loss is such an emotional thing for many people. Most of the UFC fans are American and can't relate to a a champion if he's using a translator.

I LIKE Silva. I was unsure about him before the fight...but the pure emotional response after winning the belt, the humbleness of his post-fight commentary all impressed me. Unfortunately most of this was lost to the drunk heathens in the audience. Right, wrong, or indifferent if he would have given his post-fight interview in english he probably would not have gotten boo'ed.
Who said each of these stupid quotes?

Who said Silva cares to be the poster boy? Maybe he doesn't give a shit, and I sure as hell hope he doesn't. I'm tired of all these UFC fighters trying to impress the audience because of pressure. It honestly brings down the quality because whether people are good on their feet or not they stand and trade because they don't want to get boo'ed.

Sure we speak English in America, but do we like each other more just because we all speak it? That has no determining factor at all. Look at GSP, he speaks English and he still gets boo'ed whether he deserved it or not.

How does a translator effect whether or not you can relate to someone? The translator is doing just that, translating. I can tell you right now, I do not relate with Franklin simply because he speaks English and I'm sure as hell that is not most peoples' answer also. It was his character, which Silva showed a lot of in his post-fight comments. I believe people have a harder time accepting Silva because they liked Rich and Silva is not an American.

Lastly, the post-fight interview with the translator had NOTHING to do with the boos. Did you miss all the boos when his name was announced right before the fight? Did you miss the boos after he won the fight but before they did his interview? There were less boos during and after his interview.

Do I think Silva should learn English? It wouldn't hurt, but I hope he doesn't learn it for the shallow reasons given above.

This is a BIG, HUGE NO!

You relate to people not because they speak the same language, but because you understand and are able to communicate with them. And Anderson Silva had a translator to do that for him. Example, we both obviously speak English and I definitely do not relate to you on this subject.

Why the hell does he need to learn English? While at it, why not make him practice a stand up comedic routine while he fights and hook up a mic during the fight.

This is so absurd. Why does anyone care he speaks English? He's a fighter.

I don't think there will be any demands that he learn English, more like a professional conversation between Dana, Anderson and the translator stating that it would be a huge career move for him to work on his English.

It would have to be someting that is slowly implemented much like Wand did, those guys all train like animals (all MMA fighters) so having to spend even 1 hour per day learning English is taking away from their training, sleep down time, etc. and the MOST important thing right now for A. Silva and the UFC is for Silva to remain champion as it would really have the fans thinking if Silva were to lose immediately after getting the belt a they would think Rich was a can.

They will try and market Silva and if the fans for some reason (they are ass holes so that would be the only reason) do not like him, they will try and bring in an outside force. I was originally thinking hendo or Kang then read shitdog's article and they were thinking Hendo or Lindland and Lindland does sound like a good choice but the only about Lindland is that he is an ugly dude and his fights are boring so the fans are not goign to like him anymore than they do Silva, in fact sfter watching a few Lindland fights they will probabaly be wishing Silva was still champion and KO'ing people.

That is of course if Lindland can beat Silva which is very possoble in a boring 5 round LNP. Lindland can avoid submissions and is great with the takedown, but I really have no desire to see Lindland in a GNP 25 minute fight.

I think Lindland would be a poor choice for UFC because of the above mentioned 'ugly and boring' reasons, but also because 25 minutes is more than enough time for Silva to KTFO him imo. In other words it would be a waste of money for UFC.

git.

Silva should not have to learn english unless he chooses to, if anything I think him as a champ is a good thing because of the diversity. I don't want cookie cutter poster boys to own all of the titles. Variety is the spice o' life.

Being a new fan to the sport and only being able to watch UFC I think it is important for your champs to be able to speak the language. There's more to the sport than "just" fighting, as much as the longtime hardcore fans might disagree. If he didn't want to be a "posterboy" he wouldn't fight for the title. Being the champion means you are the man. That doesn't just include carrying a belt around, it means being a figure head. I think he should be strongly encouraged to learn the language so the UFC fans care about the guy.

I was referring to the casual dumbass fans that watch the sport for nothing more than to see blood and someone get knocked out. These would consist of the people that boo jiu-jitsu technicians from taking the fight to the ground and working for the sub. I honestly couldn't care if my champion spoke english or not, but I was simply referring to the asshole people that booed this guy for the fact it would make him a helluva lot more marketable for them.
