Default Irvin: "Silva's clinch is not real technical"

Short video clip on 5ozP here.

Quote:
"I don't think he's real technical, in terms of the clinch"

...

"I'm more than comfortable right up close, right close and personal trading elbows and knees, that's probably the biggest part of my sparring that I do, and I haven't gotten to display it here in the UFC and I think this is gonna be the fight..."
Irvin is getting KTFO if he thinks he can stand and trade with Silva, or clinch with him. Did he even watch Silva-Franklin 1 or Silva-Franklin 2?!

This fight is ending in a highlight reel KO.

who knows, Irvin may have an ace up his sleeve

he will probably be one of the strongest fighters Anderson has faced so he might do well in the clinch. I doubt it lol but its possible

Irvin's a little bigger and stronger than Ace, not to mention he hits harder. Will that be enough? I doubt it, but stranger things have happened.

I think Rich is alot stronger than Irvin and Anderson controled him in the clinch easily. I think its gonna be a great stand up fight till Irvin gets ko'd hes got good power but not good enough to hurt Anderson imo

In close and in the clinch gives Irvin his best chance at winning against Silva... He actually has really good muy thai, and is just as strong if not stronger than Silva... heavy puncher. He only chance at winning is to stand and trade with him.

I think Silva will win this fight, but Silva will have to be very cautious of Irvin's power... as we all know he has big time KO power.

Right, and the reason Irvin wants to watch Rich-Silva II is for that bobbing and weaving Silva did. Franklin is one of the most devastating strikers in MMA and Silva just made him look bad.

Irvin can have all the power in the world, but if he never connects or at least connects flush, it won't matter. And Silva's pinpoint accuracy and technical striking is enough to drop Irvin when he slips a punch or two and tags him.

The reason he wants to watch Rich-Silva I is that it should forever disabuse him of the idea of standing in tight with Silva and clinching with him. I agree that Rich is probably about as strong as Irvin, and Silva made him look really terrible with the clinch in the first fight.

All of that being said, Irvin isn't well rounded enough to have a good shot at beating Anderson any other way - not with wrestling or BJJ - so he is going to want to stand with him. It's just going to end badly for him

One final point, we all know how important respect is to Anderson. He made a point of saying that Lutter and Leben disrespected him by not making weight and prefight comments respectively. If Anderson catches wind of Irvin saying his clinch isn't real technical, he may choose to make a point of beating him with exactly that weapon

Rich Franklin's surgically reconstructed face suggests Irvin give Silva's clinch a little more respect...

Just because Franklin fights at mw doesn't mean he is smaller or weaker then any light heavyweight, He is huge! just look at the video of him next to Wandy.
