What Lyoto REALLY said (Correct translation added)
FIXED
Quote:
" New translation on Lyoto Machida : "Quinton won the fight" interview
Im brazilian and I speak both english and portuguese, so I can give another take on the matter.
I just saw the other thread: Lyoto Machida : "Quinton won the fight" and I couldnt help it, but feel that it was badly translated, I thought about repplying on it in the middle of those 40 pages but... now the damage has been made.
The TS translated it like "I think UFC gave the win to Forrest because the UFC want Chuck to be the next champion" when in reality it wasnt what Machida said. The TS created a link of cause and consequence that clearly doesnt exist in the original portuguese quote.
When you read what the TS of the other topic translated, the guy cuts 4 sentences into 3 sentences and does so implying that Machida said that UFC rigged the decision just so they could give the title shot to Liddell.
I will go straight to the main point.
Machida said in portuguese:
"Olha, para mim o Quinton ganhou do Forrest, mas deram para o Forrest.
Acho que agora eles casam a luta com o Chuck Liddell para ele levar o título.
Acho que eles querem que o Liddell fique com o título, é um ex-campeão, tem mais marketing e vende mais"
wich translates in english to:
"Look, to me Quinton won (the fight against) Forrest, but they (the judges) gave (the decision victory) to Forrest.
And now I think that they will settle the (title) fight with Chuck Liddell (next) ,for him to take the title. I feel that they want Liddel to stay with the title (in the end), he is an ex-champion, he has more marketing and sells more"
He is not implying that UFC rigged the decision and gave the title to Forrest as the TS of the other thread made it look like.
Machida is just saying that he doesnt agree with the judges. Thats the first sentence.
THEN he proceeds to analize whats next based on the result of the fight!
He said that since Forrest won, they will likelly to give the next title shot to Chuck Liddell, for the obvious reasons: Chuck is an ex-champion, more popular, sells more."

Sometimes the Truth hurts...Even though I think Forrest won. BTW Chuck vs. Forrest will make a ton of money and Zuffa knows it.

couldnt have said it better. Not that I agree with Lyoto insinuating that the judging was fixed, I dont believe it was, but he is right. They want chuck back at champ one more time before he rides dana off into the sunset. Huge payday for Zuffa with a Forrest vs Chuck fight. Cant wait to hear the hating going on if this indeed does happen.

Yea i totally agree with the notion that its better for Zuffa to have Forrest be champ but i don't think the fight was fixed as he is insinuating. Thats the risk of letting a fight go to decision, sometimes you get the call sometimes you don't. If Rampage would have stayed true to his words on the ultimate fighter he wouldnt have to worry about the score cards.

the problem for dana is that he can't just feed machida to anyone. he will cause problems for every lhw in the division and most likely win.
he can bury him in undercards or just rip up his contract but that ould be a waste of money.
it seems tito rubbed off on machida.

I can see the idea of chuck being a better money maker. I don't think the fight was fixed however but, at the same time I don't feel forest did enough to take away the belt. I mean technically he did edge out rampage but in all championship fights the challenger has to take the belt away. I really didn't see forest taking the belt away in any commanding way. In a regular bout sure forest won, but giving the belt to someone that did less damage and didn't even really hurt his opponent which was the champion should say something. Almost feel like it was given to the nice guy with the cinderella story just to complete the tail.

This is funny machida and i think alike, I just made a post earlier today that stated the same thing. I dont think it was fixed but Dana is definetly happy with forrest winning the fight. Liddel is a cash cow for the UFC.

I don't think forrest chuck would break records, but it'd be a good fight. a good fight puts asses in seats, but a huge rivalry sells out arenas. There's no rivalry there. That's part of what i didn't like about Forrest/Jackson because I wanted to see a hughes/serra rivalry.
I also think Machida is dead on. I'm sure it's frustrating knowing you deserve a shot but knowing you won't get it because Dana favors Chuck. It's pretty clear they're setting him up for it. They meant to do this with jardine but to Dana's dismay Keith beat the piss out of him. But I also think they expected Chuck to beat Quinton.
ANyway, as long as they put on great fights I'm ok. But it's a shame that dollars have to drive the sport. It's not WRONG, it's just a shame
