Default Anyone rewatch Forrest-Rampage today?

Anyone rewatch that fight yet this morning? Not again last night in the "heat of battle", but this morning when hopefully cooler heads prevail?

If so, anyone still feel the same way they did last night? Anyone feel differently about the fight than they did last night?

I haven't yet rewatched it this morning, but going to soon. This fight provoked a STORM of discussion over the appropriate result, and I'm interested to hear from folks that rewatched it today and whether their assessment changed or didn't change.

I just rewatched the whole thing. I still have Forrest winning, but it's close.

Round 1 was very close, but I'll grant it to Rampage due to the knockdown. However, Rampage was in clear control for only something like 30-45 seconds that fight, and he did no damage after dropping Forrest. Forrest was clearly the aggressor and in control other than that time, but I'll still grant the round to Rampage.

Round 2 - Forrest wins 10-8, straight up. Rampage gets shut out and nearly finished. This is the closest either fighter comes to finishing the fight.

Round 3 - Probably the crucial round of the fight, because it's the one in most contention, and hardest to call IMO. I still like Forrest in this round, I think he was the aggressor and more effective.

Round 4 - Rampage's only clearcut round, although even in this round he gets locked up in a triangle that would end most fighters' evenings, and briefly an omoplata. Also note that the fight went to the ground not because Rampage got a takedown, but because Forrest pulled guard; and Rampage proceeded to lay n pray. But, Rampage clearly won this round on the feet so I give it to him.

Round 5 - Fairly close, with slight edge to Forrest, until the last 90 seconds or so, when I think Forrest seals it. Also note that in this round, like in most of the rest of the fight, Forrest is clearly the aggressor, pushing forward more than Rampage and dictating the pace of the fight. This factor is IMO underrated in fans' assessment of the fight - Forrest Griffin was the aggressor nearly the whole damn night, thanks primarily to crippling Rampage in round 2.

I have Forrest winning 48-46. I scored the bout precisely like Nelson Hamilton - rounds 2 3 and 5 to Forrest, with a 10-8 round 2. Rounds 1 and 4 to Rampage. And even round 1 can be argued IMO.

Great fight though. Definitely a Fight of the Year candidate and, along with recent battles such as Diego-Fitch and Rampage-Hendo, another great bellwether/referendum on how an MMA fight should be scored.

It wouldn't imo be that hard for someone to argue a 4-1 fight to Forrest. I mean i think he won the first round. I just dont think those 30 seconds was enough, i mean if he did some damage on the ground then sure, but he did nothing.

Watched again this morning, could have given a couple rounds to Jackson (3 and/or 4) and 1, but again, all 5 rounds could have been given to Griffen. Everyone gives round 1 to Jackson, but besides the one punch he did nothing else. Have to respect how Jackson handled the loss.

Jackson's main coach (can't remember his name) said he would retire if Jackson lost, any news if he is going to welsh on this?

I agree, I think a good argument can be marshalled for Forrest winning round 1.

But even ceding that round, Forrest clearly won the fight IMO.

Even in Rampage's best round, the fight went to the ground because Forrest, not Rampage, wanted it there, and once there, Forrest controlled the action and came dangerously close to choking Rampage out. If Rampage wasn't as freakishly, Arona-slammingly strong as he is, he taps out in round 4 and we don't even have any of these discussions.

I haven't seen any really good arguments yet, of a round-by-round or blow-by-blow nature, for Rampage actually winning the fight. I'd like to see some from folks that think he got "robbed".

Yea, I rewatched. I still have it as a draw. It's a battle of quantity vs quality IMO. Forrest landed more shots but Rampage's had more on them. Forrest had the more impressive round in round 2, but I think Rampage landed more power shots that hurt Forrest so I had him 3 rounds to 2 and a draw.

I do think that the 10-8 round could be argued but more people than not would have it 10-8. Forrest hurt Rampage with leg kick but once on the ground, not a lot of damage was done. Even post fight, Rampage said that he was just resting up. Had Forrest nearly finished it where the ref was giving warnings about stopping it, it would have been different in my eyes. However, with the current way fights are scored, Forrest completely dominated the 2nd round and that deserves the 10-8.

It's a tough call but I'd still say a draw.

Both guys fought their hearts out and neither were victorious. This was more of a draw than that bullshit Tito-Rashad draw. It sucks being in this position for me because I'm a big fan of both guys.

I hope the UFC lines up a rematch quick, fast, and in a hurry.

My friend had it a draw. I want to see the rematch. but as a Tito fan the point deduction was bullshit but it was clear that it was a draw.

Yea, in the Tito fight he grabbed the cage twice and lost a point. Last night, they slapped a guy's hand off the cage at least 4 times in the first round and he didn't even get a warning. Tito won that fight 29-28.

Last night on the other hand, I had a dead even draw. And I was the only one here who argued that. My sister and her husband were arguing with my friends over who won. I say neither one and they need to hook up the rematch.

I feel forrest won this fight he fought his fight, and kept to his game plan.
The judgeing was close but even at the end when they were about give the judges decision Rampages face said it all he knew he didn't win that fight.
It was a close fight and should be a rematch but it was not a draw Forrest won this one.
