Dana White Says Anderson Silva Might Fight Three Or Four Times In 2008
Quote:
Dana White was never one to hide the fact Anderson Silva is one of his favorite employees, which makes sense as he is seen as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, and the Brazilian is also now being seen as a gold mine.
Accepting the challenge of moving up in weight classes on short notice to face James Irvin, at UFN 14, on the 19th of this month, only earned him points in the eyes of his boss, who also seeks to attend to some of the "Spider's" requests, like fighting more for example.
“Anderson Silva, being the monster that he is, you all know is going to move up to 205 on July 19. He's going to fight at 205. If everything goes well, he wants to move back to 185 and fight Sept. 6 in Atlanta, probably against Yushin Okami, then he wants to fight again two months later. When I talk about real fighter, this is the kind of guy I'm talking about. This guy sat down in a meeting with us, literally, two months ago and said you're not fighting me enough, I want to fight more. Anderson Silva might fight three or four more times this year. might fight three or four more times this year and it's almost August!" said the UFC's top dog to MMA news site MMAWeekly.com.

Three times TOPS, and judging from what they are paying him, I see why he wants to fight more...

As long as he keeps dominating other fighters there shouldnt any reason why he cant. I love watching Anderson Silva kick ass. He is one of the most exciting fighters there is. He is also very humble and respectfull. He is a great Role Model for MMA.
Now if he could just learn some more English.
War Anderson!!

Like I said in another thread about this topic; I really hope this starts a trend with fighters. I want to see my favorite fighters fight more than 2-3 times a year. Nog, Liddell, BJ Penn, GSP, Jackson, Shogun(when healthy) and Tito when he was in the UFC.
4-5 times would be good. Event if the UFC has to get one or two more ppv in the year, I'll still buy it as long as i'm promised some of those top fighters. And NOT a main event of Michael Bisping and Chris Leben.

Personally, IMO Silva gains nothing by beating Okami and the only other one that is still even remotely interesting in the MW division is a Hendo rematch...and even he's gotta believe he's not ready for that rematch. Silva's stud matchups right now are at 205. Its a shame that it would come off like Silva is abandoning 185, but why waste the best p4p guy right now fighting guys that the bigger question is how he'll beat them as opposed to if. With matchups v. Chuck, Rampage, Wandy, etc. on the horizon, I'd like to see Silva go, and stay, at 205. No sense in playing around at 185 anymore....Silva's a God in that division, and Im not even a huge Anderson fan.

As long as it doesn't take too much of a toll on his body. I'd be more excited about him fighting the right fights rather than just more fights. This Irvin fight, though I am totally excited about it, isn't a fight that makes the most sense - other than just to test the 205 waters. If he wins, I'd like to see Silva only take fights that are a plus for him, without debate, i.e. fights against top contenders at 185 and fights against contenders or at least above 'middle of the pack' fighters at 205. Then more fights will be worth his while, IMO. Otherwise he risks injury, unnecessary losses, and burning out too soon, I think.

I think at this point Dana would do anything to keep Anderson happy so he will stop talking about that stupid boxing match. I would love to see all fighters, fight more times a year.

He fights the exact opposite of the way he acts.
His voice is humble but his knees are devastating! Gotta love Anderson Silva!
