Joe would do much better against Aoki than a lot of people on this board seem to think. As some have pointed out, JZ got caught up in Aoki's gamplan, and didn't fight a smart fight.
Stevenson is intelligent, pretty levelheaded...I doubt he'd allow himself to get caught by those jumping guard pulls that Aoki got against JZ.

If they fought in america, Joe could probably win. But in Japan, it'd be a close fight and they will pull out their favoritism bullshit and Aoki would win the decision. That is if Joe doesn't get subbed.

JZ didn't fight like he fought in the first fight. He really fell into Aoki's trap. He willingly stayed in Aoki's guard plenty of times. I have no idea why he changed gameplans in the second fight. Aoki had no answer for him in the first fight (although it was a short fight).

You mean the first fight wasn't boring ala Koscheck Diego Sanches (sarcasm). Yea you are right all I saw in that fight was JZ Jabbing a few times and yes landing some. Aoki missing every chance to take guard and both of them circling the ring over and over. Not a good fight to be assessing either of them with IMO.

I haven't seen Aoki yet so I can't really comment. I will say this though if Aoki's first fight in the UFC is against Joe, don't forget about the 'first cage fight' curse that many former ring fighters succumb to. From what I've read Aoki is a bamf. Joe is no slouch, it'd be a damn good fight.

I like Joe in that fight, he can keep it standing and win on the feet.. so what if JZ is a "better" striker then Joe.. its a completely different style.. Joes a better boxer... and in a fight like this when your trying to be defensive and keep it standing.. boxing will get you a 3 round decision safer then most other striking styles.

I'ts very clear that Steve didn't learn his lesson from his last fight.
And now he is asking for his deathwish.

I'd love to see that fight....Joe would get killed by Aoki!!!
Joe has a lot of heart & good endurance, but Aoki has too much technique. Joes' striking isn't anything that would concern Aoki too much (see JZ). As good Joes' submissions are, Aoki is just too damn crafty & would go to town on the ground. That's just my objective opinion on the fight.
Now, as far as my personal opinion??? I hope to God somehow this fight gets made & Aoki humiliates Joe before he ending his career!!!! I have no respect for anyone who does business with Marc Laimon. That man has no honor, shows no respect & is a world class jerk. I hope Aoki finishes the job Penn started & puts Joe away forever!
(ummmmmm........pardon the rant at the end lol)
