Jason Macdonald: No one wants to see Silva vs. Okami

Jason Macdonald: No one wants to see Silva vs. Okami
Featured article by MMATraining.com's Manuel Martinez Angeles
In Jason MacDonald’s latest blog for Sportsnet.ca he sounds off on Anderson Silva’s move to 205 lbs and comments about the always forgotten Yushin Okami getting a title shot with the Spider.
“Some people ask what about Yushin Okami, but outside of Okami himself, I don’t think there’s anyone who wants to see Silva fight him. There’s not much excitement about that.”
He also comments on how moving to 205 lbs will be a big challenge for Silva when facing bigger fighters.
“Some may point to how he handled Dan Henderson. But Henderson has always been a smaller guy. Henderson walks around at 195-200 pounds, which is smaller than many middleweights. It’s smaller than what I walk around at.”
The Canadian middleweight will take on Demian Maia at UFC 87 August 9th, at the Target Center in Minnesota.

I used to like MacDonald, at least as a fighter. Can't say I care much anymore, though.

He let me down in his Franklin fight. I picked him to win - It was the beginning of a bad picks run I had. Anderson's one of few guys who's come through for me.
As for his comments, maybe he could be in Okami's place if he hadn't lost. There's plenty of intrigue, if you ask me. Anderson's the top of the fucking food chain - The fact he isn't American/as marketable shouldn't be held against him. At all.

i'd rather see Okami vs Silva than Macdonald vs Silva.
this guy is holding a grudge against Okami after his loss. Okami is a beast, and is going to give Silva a great fight.

I'd really like to see Okami/Silva. I think Okami has just as good a chance as Hendo did, except I think Yushin has much better sub defense.
Jasons just bitter about getting his ass beat. I also dont see him getting past Maia.

Macdonald must have been knocked silly when Okami was bouncing his head off the canvas at the end of Rd 2 in their fight, for him to talk all this nonsense LOL

Honestly, Okami doesn't do it for me, but he's earned his shot against Anderson. He holds a DQ win over him already, and he's one of the last guys left for Silva to fight. He's won the fights to become "number one contender" if that means anything anymore. It's not always about who's the most exciting, unfortunately. I'll be pulling for an upset like I always do, but I won't be surprised if Okami doesn't pull it out.

MacDonald has it right though, Dana doesn't want this fight to happen. Silva is destroying his division yet he is not as marketable as rich franlkin was but IF Okami steps up and beats Anderson then we have another MW champ that is way less marketable than Silva and that is something that Dana White doesn't need to deal with.
As a fan I want to see the Okami/Silva fight, Okami has beat everyone the UFC has put in front of him besides Rich Franklin (who only 2 loses in the UFC are to silva anyways). There are no other true contenders out there and the Silva/Okami fight will clear up that DQ garbage from their first fight.

I agree completely with everything you said, especially about Dana's vantage point.
Personally I think it would be an entertaining fight, just because of there respective fighting styles. Okami is a very defensive, countering and calculating fighter and I think it will be fun to see if he can handle Silva or become a punching bag.
