ok lets get this straight for u. anderson silva was offered to move up to lightheavy weight so he took it. hes fighting james irvin and the fight is supposedly on. brandon vera turned down a fight with lyoto machida, and no silva that i know of was offered a fight with vera. i could be wrong though...
Vera turning down a fight with Machida was a pussy move. If I were a fighter I'd want redemption as soon as possible... after 3 losses in a row, then throw me a can. Vera should have stepped up to fight Machida... a win over Machida would make Vera an instant title contender... wtf??

Then Vera turned down the Machida fight and was given Reese Andy.
The thing about Wanderlei Silva is that, he turned down the fight because it was just to soon for him to be fighting again.... Vera turned down the Machida fight because he's afraid of Machida and wanted an easier opponent. Vera = Poon. Wanderlei isnt afraid of no one. He'll take any fight with the proper time preparation... When Wandy rushes his fights he usually loses.... (look at Mark Hunt/Silva) I understand where Silva is coming from, he wants proper training time before EVERY fight.

Then again, they could have given us Machida vs Silva on July 19th... both fighters fought on the same event last time, so they equally have the same time to prepare.... and Machida went the entire 3 rounds with Tito, as opposed to Silvas 36 seconds.... That would have been a good fight to see July 19th... Silva vs Machida for the number 1 contedership.

the difference is u arent a fighter, and u dunt relaize that if Vera loses ths fight he is most likely out of the UFC and relegated to making 10,000 a fight. He is looking to get a win up before he fights machida. Vera isnt a pussy for turning down a fight with machida. Nobody knows how to beat machida, or has come close for that matter.

Bro I understand where you're coming from in wanting redemption. .. but you know full well three losses in a row= Prelims and MAYBE UFN exclusively IF they even decide to keep you. Vera's no pussy for turning down that fight with Machida. Between prep time, studying Machida and creating a gameplan of some sort AND trying to peak physically when you've never fought at that weight he'd have been an idiot who's not thinking of his future to accept that fight because he would have lost and lost decisively most likely. And that would be very detrimental right now considering how loaded LHW is.

Taking a fight with Machida on a months notice is a terrible idea.

Why is it okay for Wanderlei to turn down a fight but not Vera? They both have fought recently. I don't disrespect either guy from turning down their respective fights. My only gripe with Vera was turning it down to fight a total unknown. He should have taken someone with a little notierity but again, he's the fighter, it's his career.

On another note, I've read a couple of places that Machida isn't very high on the UFC's list of title contenders because they find his style boring and are having a hard time finding fighters willing to accept fights with him. If that's the case, who's next for a title shot?

See the thing is, you guys arent looking at from my perspective... If I'm a fighter, Regardless of my record I want to do whatever it takes to get back to the top. I would be honored to have 2 losses in a row and be given an opportunity to fight a contender like Machida... It's a huge gamble I know, but with a big payoff. The UFC clearly wanted to give Vera an opportunity like this but he passed.

See the thing is, a win over Machida boosts you to the top of the food chain. A loss will bring you down of course but as a fighter you know the risks, especially with a guy like Machida. The guy simply wins fights.

Now a win over a total nobody like Andy Reese does NOTHING for the fighter professionally, it just gives him a little confidence boost and a little cooshin to his record. (in fact I think it does set him back a little) THATS IT... GOD forbid he loses to Andy Reese. IN that case Veras career is over. A HW contender goes down in weight, fighting a smaller guy who is a nobody??? LMAO.. that is a disaster. In that case he's through.

(WHAT HAS STEPHEN BONNAR BEEN DOING LATELY? VERA VS BONNAR ANYONE?)

I honestly think Vera has a decent chance against Machida... Machida is a 185er who fights at 205, Vera is a HW going down to 205, so I think Vera would definately be the bigger man. With the proper gameplan he could feasably beat Machida. If he were to lose against Machida, then fight a guy like Andy REESE... cus i know after 3 losses in a row, there are no more shortcuts to get back to the top again..

This post is better worded than the previous post. I also agree that a fight with a Bonnar caliber oppoinent would be a better fit. He doesn't need a top tier guy just yet but a bottom tier guy does nothing. You need someone in the middle. Bonnar, Jardine, T. Silva, Boetsch, etc. It depends on availability.

Then again you never know, this guy Reese Andy could be a beast. Who knows. I guess we'll find out soon enough.
