Default Rickson "100-percent sure" he would defeat Fedor

Rickson Gracie -
by Jake Rossen (jrossen@sherdog.com)

Nary has a week gone by without someone in the MMA community invoking the name Rickson Gracie (Pictures) -- this paragraph being a prime example.

Nearing 50 and inactive for eight years, Gracie is as relevant to the current combat sports scene as John L. Sullivan. Despite his age, sabbatical and limited dimension, Gracie is fond of pontificating on how he would best active fighters in competition. The latest rant came in the pages of Tokyo Sports in May, where he claimed Fedor Emelianenko (Pictures) had "so-so technical ability" and was "100-percent sure" he would defeat him.

In any other walk of life, delusions of that magnitude earn you a straightjacket and involuntary committal. I actually find Rickson to be one of the most charismatic and interesting fighters in the sport's history, but the day a middle-aged middleweight gets the best of Emelianenko is the day Japan finally starts allowing firearms in the ring.

Now? or in his prime? I mean does he think he could beat Fedor now? At 50? c'mon.

Not going to win much fans with comments like that, he should probably keep them to himself.

I've often thought the only guy who can beat Fedor is Rickson. If the fight hits the ground Fedor would be Rickson's new girlfriend.

I dont think Rickson in his prime could take Fedor. If he could get it to the ground then yea i guess so, but Fedor would probably keep it standing and beat Rickson senseless with his boxing. I know Rickson fought in the old school vale tudo days, but Fedor is a machine.

edit: Isn't Rickson the only other redbelt besides Helio or is he just a narly blackbelt?

I've seen alot of Rickson's fights and he was a monster. I would love to see those two fight in their prime, and it would be alot more competitive than many think. The big issue for Rickson may be the weight difference.

But saying he could beat him now is lunacy.

love him though. Named one of my Brazilian Filas after him. the other I named Renzo.

I can't see Rickson beating Nog in his prime never mind Fedor, lets face it the big guys he was fighting were nowhere near as good as those 2. Thats not to say I don't respect him cause I think he was a bad ass, but it was a different era.
