Miami Herald rips EliteXC/MMA
CBS is now legitimizing barbaric sport - 05/29/2008 - MiamiHerald.com
"CBS-TV lends the fraud-sport grandly calling itself Mixed Martial Arts the false imprimatur of legitimacy by this week inaugurating a new prime-time series, EliteXC Saturday Night Fights -- with Miami's own inexplicably popular Kimbo Slice the first headlining act.
Pardon my not swelling with civic pride over one of our own hitting the big-time at last for what amounts to legalized criminality, a plain barbarism that would tend to discourage a pedestal for this man."
That gives you a taste of the tone of the article. Some things still haven't changed regarding MMA's reputation...

Lack of education hasn't hurt them none, I guess.

Begin rant.
Screw the negative image Kimbo is about to put on the face of MMA.
End rant.

kimbo gets so much negative attention because of his past. There is no real way to put a positive spin on him. But he is handling it maturely. I don't think of Kimbo as the next big thing yet, but at least he is putting in the hard work and effort. He is only doing what he is paid to be doing, which is all anyone could ask of him. He's been humble and doesnt take the sport for granted. I like Kimbo from that standpoint.

I think that's wrong. Kimbo gets such negative attention because he's nobody in MMA, he's a bad representative of it, and he lends credibility to the statement that it's not a real sport.
A guy comes in off the street that's got a career of alley fights and he's headlining a network MMA event? Bad bad bad way to bring it to the public.

No he does not. Anyone that has seriously researched mma before writing an article would know that without doubt. Kimbo is just an easy target, but he is putting in the work and anyone that has a clue knows mma is without a doubt a sport. i do agree however that he may not be the best way to win over ignorant people...especially with him fighting Thompson...its not going to be a very good display of mma..

He's an easy target because he's the poster child for the wrong person to be celebrated for MMA. lol
And the truth is, the whole idea of public education is to give them an interest in MMA. THEN they'll be likely to do research and learn about it. Not by throwing up a circus sideshow
