I hear what your saying but im sure ALOT of fighters have some pretty ugly skeletons in thier closets...i just think Kimbo is being used as a scapgoat by those who oppose mma..its not like the guy is a killer or something...he just used to fight in the streets, so what? I agree though he wouldnt have been my first choice on free national tv.

I think you're missing the point I'm trying to make. It's not about what he's done wrong in the past, it's the fact that someone with no training, no history, no respect in the industry and no skill other than slugging is going to be the main event and the face of what the skeptics will see. It gives them so much fuel to their argument it's insane.

OK let it fuel their argument! We need more writers like this to make MMA more controversial; I think Dana and Shaw love these writers, for it brings more attention to MMA. The more controversial MMA becomes, the more people will watch it and talk about it. Any press is good press, as long as it brings in more money

The more things change the more they stay the same. The mid 90's had John McCain calling MMA "human cockfighting". This was a more appropriate comment when there were no weight classes and no rules. The regulation of MMA over the past decade has lead the sport into a more accepted view, however after Saturday night you will see more people coming out against the "barbaric" thugs if nothing else to only draw attention to themselves or thier agendas. Mixed Martials Arts is just that an art form. Well except for Butterbean

It will be hard, but in a couple years, with more sanctioning and better media, I think mma will break out of the mold and just continue to grow until its just another sport. "Just another sport" might not sound like the most positive comment but that is exactly where mma wants to be, at least for now. I think we will also see mma at the olympics within 10 years.

I get your point....and it will fuel the opposition to mma, but its because people are ignorant. Kimbo is training, has some respect in the industry and is trying to become a complete fighter. Fact is he isnt some dumbass thug that just jumped into the cage. He has worked his ass off to get this far...people should respect the effort that he has put into becoming a legit mma fighter. they wont though they'll just say there is Kimbo the dumb steet guy fighting in a cage. It just pisses me off. I really do understand what your saying though...

Good post!
If Elite XC wanted to "Showcase" "Kimbos Style" they should have joined up with Felony Fights.
If they wanted to "Showcase MMA" They would have something like Diaz/Gomi Headlining, not Kimbo.
Kimbo is gonna be the first MMA Fighter alot of people see for the first time, think about that.
You got Dana and the UFC trying for like the past 8 years to get mainstream audiences and govenment to recognize that that's not what the UFC's all about and here comes Elite XC with there network deal and thats what their banking on( That Kimbos rough past will bring in more fans), i see it doing more harm then good

I'm from Miami and I've been reading the author (Greg Cote) for years. This is typical of him. He bashes anything he doesn't agree with. He's very critical and a lot of the time it makes him look like a jackass.
