Ha!!! Thompson Can Affair, I see like Thomas Crown Affair.
Yes Kimbo is 80% hype, don't believe the hype that doesn't mean we can't enjoy seeing a guy knock out some chumps. Remember Abbot was doing the same thing years ago, he was fighting cans like John Matua, Paul Varelans, Steve Jennum.
The problem was when he start fighting non-cans like Taktarov and Severn.
The difference Kimbo is in way better shape than Tank and takes it more seriously.

Just having him calling things instead of some WWE style moron will do a lot for the publics perception.

Who are you talking about guys like Mauro Ranallo? He started in pro wrestling and is a big fan of it, his style is a pro wrestling style and I think he is the best play-by-play commentator in MMA.

This article is dumb and just plain biased. With Yahoo having such a close relationship with the UFC, I am not at all surprised that this guy is tyring to write an article that basically says MMA is UFC.
Marketing of not so talented fighter is something that's been done in the UFC in the past on numerous occasions. Kimbo has a certain image CBS is trying to portray and I dont see any problem with that. Sure Lesnar was given a rather difficult fight but UFC gave TUF fighter easy fights all the time and how is this any different? Kimbo brings the crowd. Isn't UFC also all about marketing anyone who fills the seats?
There are endless arguments for both sides, but there is no way in hell EliteXC is doing anythign thats so different from what UFC is doing.

I haven't heard many good ones in favor of what EXC/CBS are doing, let alone endless.

It really will depend on how they hype him on the show. Are they going to call him "from the streets"?
There will be, IMO, quite a few casual fan viewers for this show. Free on regular TV and all. I am really hoping they aren't planning to WWE this up, making him some street thug monster.

It just adds fuel to the fire, and makes Elite look like it has no class. It's just one more reason for the haters to cut down Elite.

We have MMA on major TV network during primetime. That's not good for the sport? I have no idea what you're talking about.

given the creator of the thread it's no surprise it's a "great article".
All of the yahoo guys hug the nuts of the UFC so relentlessly it's ridiculous.
And I completely agree with Chungt that this article is basically claiming UFC = MMA.
All you have to do is look at yahoo's p4p rankings and you can tell it's UFC biased. Fedor at #4? ha, and Torres made the list? bwahahaha.
Some good points in the article but cmon bro, mention of Anderson, GSP and Penn but no mention of Nog. Retarded.

kimbo is good for the sport, because nobody will just watch kimbo fight. the new fans will watch the whole event, and be easily drawn into mma. also, there not goin to base their common view of mma on how kimbo fights, acts, respects others, looks, etc. thank kimbo though, because besides the fact that kimbo is the least experienced fighter on the card, he is the only reason average/new fans are drawn into this event, KIMBO. in a way, kimbo's popularity is actually going to bring popularity to others in elitexc. y all the kimbo hate? he doesnt pick his fights...
