Mauricio “Shogun” Rua Responds to Sokoudjou's Challenge
Quote:
Brazilian magazine Tatame spoke to Mauricio “Shogun” Rua about his former teammate’s victory at UFC 84 this past Saturday. Rua said that, “Wanderlei showed who he really is,” and that it didn’t surprise him at all that Silva dominated Jardine the way that he did. Another former PRIDE fighter was actually the topic of discussion though because after his win at UFC 84, Thierry Sokoudjou issued a challenged to “Shogun.”
After Sokoudjou’s victory over Kazuhiro Nakamura, Sokoudjou had this to say, “just one thing, Shogun. Thank you.”
Rua didn’t actually watch the event or hear what Sokoudjou had said, but his friends did tell him about it and here’s what Rua had to say. “I fight anyone. I don’t choose my opponents. It would be a hard fight. He is very good at Muay Thai and Judo, but I would fight at his mistakes, as at Jiu-Jitsu.”
“Shogun” was originally scheduled to come back against Chuck Liddell at UFC 85: Bedlam, but was forced to pull out because he had re-injured his surgically repaired knee in training. He hopes to come back sometime in September.

Definitely. I can see where Soku gets the brass ones after watching the Shogun/Griffin fight though...

Personally I think the match up makes sense for Shogun to have his return fight after injury. I know most are wanting to see Liddell vs Shogun but why just throw Shogun on up to Liddell when Shogun just suffered a loss to Forrest. Soko lost to Machida and then just won against Nakurama so I think the timing would be good for these two to face off. Either way I'd be happy with Shogun fighting Liddell or Soko.
Also for those that are saying Soko has kind of lost his mind for calling out Shogun... lets not forget that Soko KO'd both Lil Nog and Arona in PRIDE. Lil Nog had never been KO'd up until that fight and both fighters are easily top 10 LHW's IMO. Soko does have much room for improvement though, specifically with his ground game.

You’re right. Forrest was a gamer that night and I think he could’a hung with anyone in the world THAT night for sure. However the fact that Shogun was so adept at using elbows even though he’s never fought under UFC rules even gassed and injured he still looked real good with his striking and submission escapes is something to consider and be VERY careful about. Maybe Soko was saying hi? I hope. ..

Ex Wanderlei Silva teammate at Chute Boxe, Mauricio Shogun Rua liked what he saw in the UFC 84. The quick knockout against Keith Jardine on last Saturday, raised the morale of the Brazilian at the Ultimate, not surprising Shogun. "It was a very good fight and Wanderlei showed who he really is", said one of Universidade da Luta leaders, which also was challenged in the octagon in Las Vegas . After knock Kazuhiro Nakamura out, Thierry Sokoudjou, who already defeated the Brazilians Ricardo Arona and Rogerio Minotouro, before being submitted by Lyoto Machida, said Shogun is the new Brazilian in his sights. "I didn’t see that, but people told me. I fight anyone, I don’t choose my opponents. It would be a hard fight, he is very good at Muay Thai and Judo, but I would fight at his mistakes, as at Jiu-Jitsu", examined Shogun, who is training to return to the octagon after the knee injury. "I am back to train Boxing and now I will back with the rest of my training in phases. I hope to fight in October, November, I will see this better with my doctors", told Shogun.
