Machida answers about his win at UFC 84 :

"I would like to apologize for my performance... I was very tired in the later rounds because I was horribly ill during the fight. I have never created excuses since my Karate competitions when I was a kid, and I am not fabricating this one... I think I could have finished the fight but my sickness made me gas in the second round, and I got in bad positions, like the triangle. I have beaten top grapplers in grappling competition and shouldn't have gotten into that triangle in normal conditions" (...) "I don't know if you guys noticed it, but when I was going to have my hand raised, I asked for my brother Shinzo to help me stay on my feet, my head and body were killing me"

i was wondering why he was just laying in tito's guard

he started to slow in the 2nd and 3rd rounds...though he was still owning tito lol

ok this just made me like Machida even less then i already do. not only his his style horrifying to watch (yet affective i cant take anything away from him for that), but i see this as him basically saying he wouldnt have run away as much had he been well. he sure didnt look sick, especially when he slammed Tito like it was nothing. Machida has fought that way every fight he's had. this sounds like an excuse for a win, lame.

flame me all you want guys, but thats my opinion.

I did notice Machida looked tired, but thought he was just tired from blowing his load late in the first round.

Wow Tito couldn't beat a sick Machida...

I didn't notice much of a difference between your typical Machida and the UFC 84 model Machida. Also in the pre and post fight pressers he seemed fairly normal.

I'm not sure why he felt the need to say this - it's not like Lyoto is someone like Anderson Silva who always dispatches people quick and now suddenly went to a decision and therefore feels a need to justify it. He won in a thoroughly Machidalike fashion

Oh well, he got the win.

I actually noticed that Machida looked pretty tired all things considered and said so in the MMANews chat. I was confused as to why he looked so gassed. So I'm buying the whole sick thing.

Maybe so, but it didn't really alter his style much.

To me he still looked pretty impressive, and the escape from the triangle was legendary. I was going crazy when Tito locked that up and then when Lyoto squirmed free.

true yes, but it doesnt change the fact that ive never liked watching Machida fight. i picked against him when he fought Nakamura and Soko. id say the only fight i wanted him to win was when he fought Hoger...other then that im not a fan. and to me it sounds like an excuse. he's never had the greatest conditioning anyways, he's always looked tired in his fights. he was sucking wind shortly before finishing Soko at 79.

i take nothing away from the affectiveness of his fighting style, but its a snoozer.

I think he should have kept quite cause I thought he gave a good performance and all this is really going to do is make some people think he's making excuses, but I guess if he really feels he could have finished it if it wasn't for his sickness he has the right to express that.
