He is somewhat right. His match with Hughes isn't exactly the perfect example of his BJJ skills. I mean, yeah, it is a perfect example in the sense of MMA and real fighting, that is for sure.
But BJJ and nothing else is a different story. Add wrestling, striking, or anything.. and the game is different.
It is widely known that Royce was a big fish in a small pond during the early UFC days. There are tons of guys out there with better jiu-jitsu than the Gracie Family (or at least, people in the Gracie Family).
Laimon has had a hard on for the Gracie Family for a long time. Given, people always ask him his opinion of the Gracies... but he doesn't like them fro sure. It is documented. He shits on them whenever he can.
