He is somewhat right. His match with Hughes isn't exactly the perfect example of his BJJ skills. I mean, yeah, it is a perfect example in the sense of MMA and real fighting, that is for sure.

But BJJ and nothing else is a different story. Add wrestling, striking, or anything.. and the game is different.

It is widely known that Royce was a big fish in a small pond during the early UFC days. There are tons of guys out there with better jiu-jitsu than the Gracie Family (or at least, people in the Gracie Family).


Laimon has had a hard on for the Gracie Family for a long time. Given, people always ask him his opinion of the Gracies... but he doesn't like them fro sure. It is documented. He shits on them whenever he can.

The gracie have evolved. Do not pin point Royce - how many other fighters of his era are relevant today? Look at Roger, granted no stand up. But he has dominated the BJJ world gi or no gi and his early steps into mma have been fruitful.

It was a good read, I think Laimon is a D-Bag personally but I did like the comment at the end of the interview when he said "I'm just the guy on the couch" or whatever it was, obvious dig at Serra.
