The answer to your question is that the UFC is suing Couture. To avoid being in a breach of contract, they are obligated to offer him fights, of which he has one left on his contract. This will allow them to say in court that they still considered him the champion and were offering him legitimate fights. For example, they offered Nog as his last fight and when he refused, or more precisely, did not answer at all (if I remember correctly), they had a interim title fight between Nog and Sylvia.

Until this mess is cleared up, they will continue to call Nog (or whoever beats him) an interim champ.

Thanks...every once in a while I have a decent post that partially makes up for my otherwise assholishness (is that even a real word?) nature.

I also think back to when I first started posting on here. i was watching any fight I could through youtube, filecabi.net, etc.. and posted something to the effect of "have you guys seen this Russian monster named Fedor? He is incredible."

Yeah...people had heard of Fedor and i was just a little late to the party.
