Dana White Issues Warning To Wanderlei Silva
Quote:
UFC president Dana White is a huge Wanderlei Silva fan, but even White admits that it's do or die for time for Silva (31-8-1), who's lost three fights in a row and will face Keith Jardine in a few days at UFC 84.
“Wanderlei has lost three in a row,” White told thefightnetwork.com. “He’s one of these unique fighters who people just love to watch fight because of his mentality on fighting. Obviously, though, [he] has to get a win.”
Silva dropped his last fight in exciting fashion, losing a three round all out brawl against Chuck Liddell, but Silva can't settle for "exciting" if he wants to stick around according to White.
“This guy has to win some fights here to stay in the UFC and stay at the top of the 205-pound division.”
This warning comes at a time when the UFC has cut fighters for much less than a three fight losing streak, and though Silva is an exciting fighter and has big name appeal, he is not immune to being cut if he continues to lose; especially when you consider that the organization has been willing to part with other big name fighters such as Tim Sylvia.
In any event, Silva has a tough draw to work out the kinks in Jardine (13-3-1, 5-2 UFC) who defeated Liddell in his last fight at UFC 76.

I think we will see a new and improved wanderlei. He's going to be accustomed to the cage, and i'd imagine he's improved his wrestling tremendously due to training with couture and all the guys at his camp. I think we will see the "axe murderer," but I think he will be much more technical.
I'm getting chills thinking about Wanderlei clinching up with jardine and pounding him with knees to the dome...ahhh i cant wait!

This isn't some bull that you put into a fighters head right before he has to fight. Give me a break. Let him go out there and fight with a clear mind. He shouldn't have to be looking over his shoulder and worrying about the fight before he actually gets in there. Why didn't golden boy Liddell get public warnings when he lost 2 in a row. What about Leben, who was getting beaten (twice on TUF), then lost a couple, and was getting into trouble with the law. It is what it is with Tito but he went out and sought Wanderlei less than a year ago and now it's do or die time. GIVE ME A BREAK! Wanderlei by axe murder then you and Tito do the gravedigger together to Dana. This crap is flatout disrespectful.

Dana White has made a lucrative career out of idiotic statements like this.
Wandi has dropped 3 in a row, certainly. But he's faced two top 5 LHW's and a top 3 HW in his last three fights. And in Jardine, he's facing a top 10, arguably on the fringe of top 5 status LHW.
Think about this...for Wandi's first fight back in the octagon, he got Chuck. For Rampage's first fight back in the octagon, he got Marvin Eastman.

Mark it down, we agree on something. In all fairness to Rampage though, Marvin Eastman had beat Rampage before and they sold that angle. And they had been selling the Wanderlei fight with Chuck for years. It is idiotic though and I whole heartedly agree.

Dana annoys me I'd like to see him deal with the just the stress of being a fighter. He's so fucking smug, kicking back playing puppet master. I don't see them releasing him if he loses this fight competitively. If he loses his next as well it's probably a done deal. What a fucking ego saying something this stupid to a legend publicly.

No shit. It's like Dana hypes the shit out of these guys and swears he's looking for guys with a fighter's mentality, then he says shit like this.
Please. Wanderlei would make an absolute FORTUNE if he went back to Japan. He's fighting only top guys and trying to make interesting fights for the UFC.
I'm sorry, but if Wanderlei gets cut for losing to Chuck and then the guy who BEAT Chuck, then Dana White is a complete piece of shit no matter how his supporters spin it in the forum.

Yeah, this ranks right up there. Screw Dana, Wanderlei has lost ONE in the UFC, if he gets released it's their loss, I'd about rather see Wand in Dream anyway.

Even if he lost to Jardine they would be stupid to get rid of Wanderlei IMO. I think Dana is just talking shit......but I don't think Wand will lose anyway so whatever.

Dont' get your panties in a bunch guys. This is the same Dana that said Chuck would get Wanderlei if he beat Jardine in Sept... Wandy isn't going anywhere even if he losses; maybe to middleweight.
It wasn't the smartest thing to say on Dana's part but I'd be willing to bet he was trying to hype the fight a little bit more as opposed to issuing Wand a threat.
