EliteXC not shy about interest in Tito Ortiz
Ok, I wasn't going to post this, but then I read the sappy love story of a speech that Gary Shaw said about Tito at the end and I just had to post it...just L fucking O fucking L...seriously my stomach hurts from laughing.

EliteXC not shy about interest in Tito Ortiz
May 16, 2008 By: Sam Caplan Category: Tito Ortiz
During a Thursday conference call to promote the debut of CBS’ “Saturday Night Fights” on May 31, EliteXC Live Events President Gary Shaw did not shy away from any questions regarding former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz.
Ortiz will become a restricted free agent following his May 24 bout at UFC 84 against undefeated Brazilian fighter Lyoto Machida. Due to the animosity that exists between Ortiz and UFC President Dana White, many pundits have speculated that UFC 84 will be Ortiz’s final fight with the UFC and that he will be seeking a new promotion to call home.
Shaw made it clear Thursday that he wouldn’t mind if that home was EliteXC.
“I happen to be a huge fan of his (Ortiz) on a personal level,” Shaw responded when asked about his feelings towards Ortiz.
At another point in the press conference, Shaw expounded further on his desire to work with Ortiz in the future.
“Of all my years in the fight game, I know one thing that I could see, touch, smell and feel, and that is a star and a superstar,” he said. “Every time I see Tito Ortiz, he wreaks of stardom. I think I can even better his days in the UFC. I think I can reincarnate Ortiz. He is a talented fighter and has all the mechanisms that you need to make someone a superstar.”
The former boxing regulator-turned-promoter already has one matchup in mind for the “Huntington Beach Bad Boy.”
“Can you imagine Tito Ortiz and Kimbo (Slice) in the cage together one day?,” Shaw asked. “My door is open. I hope that he’s able to negotiate one day because I would never interfere with a contract. I hope he’s sitting right next to me, not across from my desk, but right with me.”

I expect this means there has already been several negotiations. I wish Tito could see that Gary Shaw is like one of the lizard people from the show V.

This kind of "speculation" wouldn't happen in other major sports. Sure Tito is out the door of the UFC, but for the next 8 days, he's still under contract. I think it fits under tampering guidelines when you speak at a press conference about how much you'd like to sign a fighter who still currently works for another organization. Waith til the 25th before you talk about it. He isn't going anywhere yet.
As for Kimbo, all Tito would have to do is keep from being hit, take him down and drop elbows. Bas hasn't had enough time to teach him how to handle a grappler like Tito. It's also funny to note that Bas is a fan of Tito's. It would be funny to see what happens before and after cage side if these 2 ever fought.

EliteXC worries too much about getting huge draws and not enough about getting good fighters. Kimbo, Tito, Baroni etc. Those are all guys who arent the greatest fighters, but are huge draws.
Combine that with Shaw's stuff about taking the Tyson fight in a heartbeat (groan), its pretty clear that its all about the money. I think that Dana and the F Brothers genuinly care about the sport as well as making money, but I really get the impression that its ALL about the money to Shaw and EliteXC.
Competition with the UFC is probably good for the sport, but I would want a little bit more worthy competition for the UFC.
