Latest on Arlovski + Affliction undercard on FSN?
From Josh Gross' SI column
Quote:
Of the many names spread throughout Affliction's barrage of news-conference announcements to promote its July 19 event, two caught my eye.
First, "TBA." Or, as I read it, The Belarusian Arlovski.
May 19 is the day when Andrei Arlovski could sign with Affliction, SI.com has learned. That is, assuming the UFC declines to match what is believed to be a deal that pays the former UFC champion in the low-to-mid six figures for the first of three non-exclusive bouts.
A representative from Arlovski's camp explained there was "nothing to report," though continued on to say negotiations with the UFC were ongoing.
If the UFC lets Arlovski go, it will have seen "The Pitbull," Tim Sylvia and Randy Couture -- all UFC heavyweight champions a combined six years since November 2000 -- severe ties with Zuffa in the past eight months. Arlovski is the only fighter of the three to complete his contract and wait out an exclusive negotiating period before attempting to leave.
UFC President Dana White recently told Yahoo! Sports that, while he hoped to retain Arlovski, there was doubt as to whether that would actually happen.
Should Arlovski and Affliction complete their deal, the Belarusian is expected to appear at next Tuesday's press conference at the in Century City, Calif., to announce a fight against former International Fight League heavyweight champion Ben Rothwell.
The other name that jumped out was George Greenberg from Fox Sports. A longtime supporter of MMA, Greenberg had a hand in putting the UFC on Fox Sports Net's The Best Damn Sports Show Period, delivering UFC and Pride content, as well as IFL cards.
Greenberg's presence at the press conference suggests there is something to rumors that the undercard of the July 19 Affliction event would be broadcast live on FSN. Asked to confirm why Greenberg was attending the announcement, Affliction declined to comment.

I really hope the CSAC publishes the Affliction payroll. I really want to know if this is really worth abandoning ship for all these fighters. I mean rome wasn't built in a day, but not everybody can be the fucking king of rome. Do they have any other division except heavyweight? lol

Yea rothwell was never HW champion I don't think, and TECHNICALLY Arlovski isn't allowed to Sign with anyone till May 19th. He's allowed to field offers, but the UFC has till May 19th to try to match them bla bla bla contract bullcrap yadda yadda

isnt the event gonna be on pay per view? i know for a fact dishnetwork is airing it (i checked) so i doubt fox sports will if the same fights (excluding the main event) are on ppv; that'd be like paying $40 to watch fedor...no thanks (although i'm sure there are millions upon millions willing to pay that to see the sweat drip off fedor's scrotum).
aa leaving ufc is fuckin gay! i think he is though because now mir is the so called number one contender (to a damn interim title, thanks randy) so whats the point in aa staying and having to fight on another prelim card? he might as well go and beat up rothwell (who was never ifl heavyweight champion btw) on pay per view.

I was under the impression that the UFC's exclusive negotiation window closed on the 1st and the only significance of May 19 was that it was the day before the Affliction press conference.
Rothwell beat Rodriguez in the 2007 IFL Championship finals but his team lost. That may be where the mistake was made that he was the champ.

Maybe I read it wrong...I only got 3 hours of sleep lol...but at the same time, why would affliction give the UFC time to con him out of fighting for them? If affliction could sign him, they would do it now dontcha think?

Rothwell vs. Arlovski already set?
according to Secondary League Upcoming Events at the very bottom they have the fight already up. This might be as good as signed as soon as the waiting period for Arlovski to re-sign with the UFC is up...
