is alvarez a big kid yamamoto?
i made a thread awhile ago saying what if gomi fought alvarez...
i think some maybe giving alvarez more of a chance now... but anyone else think that eddie and kid kinda fight similar? both are very strong and fast with their hands and have great takedowns. i think there are more similar things but i don't want to go through them all....

I don't think I'd throw Alvarez in that class just yet. He looked very good against Hellboy, but he still has holes in his game. Hellboy is not that tough to take down. Eddie's strikes looked sharp, and he flashed him several times in the fight, but he wasn't able to seal the deal.
Alvarez may be starting to come into it, but we still need to see a few more fights before throwing him with the top names in the LW division.

I think Alvarez needs to be given more time to develop - in time I think he'll truly be one of the world's best. Great performance from him against Hansen, but its not fair to judge him on that and the Dida fights. He needs to keep beating top opposition before anyone gets too carried away about him

I can see the similarity's but I guess we need to see a little more from him on the top level, which we will in this tournament, his take downs, sub defense, gnp, and striking all seem to be good though.

Alvarez impressed the shit out of me with his win over Hellboy. First Dida, now Hellboy, maybe this guy is for real?

i have not been able to stand Alvarez since his Bodog days, specifically his fight with Aaron Riley...but he really took it to Hansen and i feel this guy is pretty damn good. he's fighting at the weight he should have always been at, and Nick Thompson proved that to him.
he sure as hell isnt the be all end all of LWs, but after his two recent wins he'll be a tough fight for just about anyone.

I think if there was a 3rd round then Hansen would have taken the fight, but still a good showing

Alvarez will be a legit top 10 LW in the world in the next year, and he's still very young.

You could possibly be right, Alvarez was clearly tiring by the end of the fight. However, the flurry he tagged Hellboy with right at the end of the fight was no joke. Even tired, he still had the goods, and it's probably almost as likely he would have finished Hansen in a round three as lost.
