In all fairness to Herring, I think had there been a different ref in there when he fought Noguirea, Herring would be the champ right now. Nogueira was done several times in that first round and I have seen many fights stopped over less. But Yves Lavigne just kept letting it go on and on and never stopped it. I was dumbfounded over why that fight wasn't stopped. Granted, Nogueira hung on but there are tons of fights that are stopped that had the ref gave more time to recover, the fight may have went on.

The fact that Werdum is in the discussion shows how weak the HW divisionis right now. He's 1-1 in the UFC and 2-2 in his last 4 fights. That should never even sniff a title fight in any weight class. Right now though the division isn't deep enough to prevent such things. All things being equal I'd like to see Herring get another shot since I also feel that he should have won the Nog fight.

Werdum has really looked like shit in his last two fights. He got beatdown by AA,and was rag dolled by Gonzaga uptil the last 90 seconds of that fight. If he does beat Vera(which I hope he does,Vera shouldnt be fighting at HW to begin with) I still dont see him making it out of the second round with Nog.

Ragdolled? He handled GG very well, despite the size/strength advantage. I felt the first round was even, the second was all Werdum.

I've got Werdum all day against Vera. I don't think he'll beat Nog, but I don't think there is anyone in the UFC who can beat Nog.

I think it's pretty funny when people bust on a fighter for looking like shit when they don't even let a fight go the distance and stop a guy. I'm not calling you on it in particular, but a lot of casual fans were busting on AA for the O'Brien fight, shit like that.

~Fighters stepping into the professional arena deserve tremendous credit.
~Fighters winning their fights deserve even more.
~Fighters finishing a fight deserve even more credit.
~Fighters finishing a fight against a top 10 opponent should get even more.

How many GSP fanboys would get their collective panties bunched if I said GSP looked like shit against Serra because he took two rounds to finish him?

I think it's pretty easy for people to talk smack from the anonymous veil of the internet and the relative safety of their living room, but it's hypocrisy that doesn't become this forum. That nonsense belongs at Sherdog.

Why the hell would Herring have been champ now if he beat Nog? The UFC probably wouldn't have given him a title shot, then even if they did he would have had to have beaten someone for the title, probably Sylvia. Yves Lavigne made the right decision becuase he knew what kind of heart Nogueira had, and considering that Nog made it out of the fight and won goes to show you that Yves was right.

How was Nogueira done SEVERAL times in the first round?? he got hurt once in the whole fight and none of Herring's follow up punches even landed flush enough to finish the job

You managed to say something retarded in every sentence!

Werdum has fought 3 top 10 heavyweights in his last 3 fights, and his record in those last 3 fights is 2-1. He looked solid in every one of those fights.....

Beatdown by AA?? AA landed about 6 good shots that entire fight, did you even watch it?

Rag Dolled? Gonzaga was afraid of Werdum, he didn't want any part of the standup OR the ground game so he would just push Fabricio down then stand over top of him. Werdum got the better of the ground, and EVERY exchange in that fight.

You do realize that him and Nog have fought before??? He lasted 20 minutes with Nog, it was a great fight and it was very close. If you don't know what you are talking about then you shouldn't act like it, I hope you don't have 1000 other posts like these.

I suggest you really watch the fight again (especially that part). I'll just go into detail of exactly what happened again in that first round:

0:36 - Herring lands the kick on Nog's chin
0:34 - Herring jumps on Nog's left side and landed his first punch on the ground
0:34-0:30 - Herring lands a few punches got a few through hitting Nog in the face while Nog was trying to block some.
0:30 - 0:27 - The rest of the shots were hitting Nog's arms while Nog was pulling down on Herring's head
0:26 - Herring decides to stand up
0:25-0:12 - no effective shots took place from both fighters
0:11 - Nog tries to take Herring down
0:10 - Nog falls on his back
0:08 - Nog spins back and grabs on to Herring's legs
0:06 - end - Hering stands up, round ends

Thats basically what happened... except there is one part I intentionally left out. That was between 0:34 and 0:31, which was Herring had side control and you see Nog being able to spin straight into butterfly guard (first sign of recapturing control), then putting his arms up at the same time to defend his shots (second sign of defending himself), and then eventually at 0:27 to pull Herring's head down (third sign which completely avoided shots).

Those are all aspects of intelligently defending himself. He wasn't completely out of it. He recovered so bloody quick and minimized any sort of damage.

That's a solid post as always Doc but I'm still baffled by the "Herring would be champ" comment...

Yea I even forgot to address that one. Even if Herring would have got the victory, it doesn't automatically equate to him beating Sylvia.

Are you two guys brothers? Ignorance exhibited in these posts must run in the family. You obviously have no clue about what you're talking about. Dr. MMA and Neo already ripped them to shreds. I was kinda shocked with these because this isn't typical of what you guys post but jeez, you couldn't have been any further off.

Herring beats Sylvia 7 times out of 10, in my opinion. Tim's size isn't as big of a factor for Heath, and he's better at every aspect of MMA than Tim is.

I don't see him ever seeing ever beating Nog, but I see Heath as a threat to anyone else in that division right now. I think he'd completely overpower Vera, for instance.
