Frankie Edgar Joins Ricardo Almeida
I am eager to see how Frankie's game evolves as he gains some BJJ knowledge to add to his solid wrestling.

Frankie Edgar joins Ricardo Almeida BJJ Academy
By MMAFighting.com on May 6, 2008
UFC lightweight Frankie Edgar (8-1) has joined Ricardo Almeida's Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy in Hamilton, New Jersey.
Edgar, one of the UFC's brightest young talents, opened his UFC career with wins over Tyson Griffin, Mark Bocek and Spencer Fisher. The New Jersey native recently suffered his first career loss when he dropped a unanimous decision against Gray Maynard at UFC Fight Night: Florian vs. Lauzon.
Edgar previously trained with AKA, Rhino, Elite Wrestling and Balance Studios.
Almeida, a BJJ Black Belt under Renzo Gracie, came out of retirement at UFC 81: Breaking Point in February and submitted Rob Yundt at 1:08 of the first round.
Another UFC veteran, Chris Liguori, who will compete on the CBS-EliteXC card on May 10, also joined Almedia's Academy.

great news. Edgar needs some work on his BJJ and a little more on his striking. he can definitley be a top 5 fighter in the LW division and probably a future champion.

good news for Frankie. he got outclassed by Gray, and definitely needs to work on a lot of things if he wants to one day be a future champion...and JJ is a good start. especially with Almeida!
Frankie is a great fighter, and is really good at proving certain guys are overrated (every fight he's won in the UFC proved that IMO). he still has a long way to go in this sport.

Yea, good for Frankie. I still foresee a cut to 145 in his future though. When fighting Maynard, he looked really small and was just out muscled alot of times it seemed (to me at least).
I am also a fan of Chris Liguori, and wish him Luck on the EliteXC card.

Anytime you can better yourself as a fighter is a great decision. He was just over powered by Gray even though he was never really hurt. I think Frankie is a force to be reckon with. His fights are exciting and has a great future in mma.

I think he is pretty complete as a fighter but it doesn't look like her has to cut alot of weight to make 55 and that is his biggest downfall. With him adding to his Jits and with his pretty good striking, and his wrestling credentials....that is pretty well rounded but he was easily pushed around by gray and since most guys cut from about 165-170 to make 55 he looks like he cuts from 160 if at all. It almost looked as if Frankie gave up about a solid 10 pounds of muscle to Gray and even gray said it....he was too small to do anything worth anything to hurt gray. Hit the weight room as hard as he hits all the aspects and the 55 div better look out....

Oh, and the article has the date of the Elite XC event wrong... It is May 31st, not may 10th.
