i disagree with everyone saying hughes isnt in his prime. his last 2 losses are to G S fuckin P. other than that, hes dominated everyone in front him basically. i think hughes could take shields, but it'd be easier to say considering how he fairs against thiago, but i dont care what anyone says, hughes is still a top ww.

Cesar is just pissed that Royce didn't even make it to the 2nd round against Matt Hughes...
I think Sheilds and Hughes would be a good fight to watch, but lets be honest... who has Shields faced that is the caliber of Matt Hughes? Nobody! If they fought, it would be without a doubt the biggest test for Shields, even with Hughes career coming to a close as an active fighter.

WHAT???? Shields takes Hughes no question? You act like Hughes is a has been washed up loser dude!!! IMO Shields has yet to compete with a top level competitor like GSP, Hughes, BJ PENN, and if he did, I would say all 3 beat him, and at worse 2 out of 3 beat him.

Most of Shields Subs are RNC I doubt that he takes GSP's back.

First of all, Shields clearly won...
Second of all, Shields is a leg and foot lock expert... he gives private lessons and seminars to Black Belts (even when he was a Purple and Brown Belt) on foot, ankle, and leg locks.
He certainly has the ability to sweep or sub GSP if he was to get into the right position.

Just getting out of submissions won't get you a win in any BJJ match. If you want to watch a real grappling match, I suggest you watch their grappling match in the gracie open where Shields made him tap to a RNC.
I was one of the people who thought that Serra would not be able to sweep or sub GSP but Shields does have the ability to sweep and sub him. He is also good at minimizing damage done by the opponent, so as long as he is able to minimize the damage via GSP strikes, he can sub/sweep GSP.
With that being said, I still predict that GSP will be able to keep it on the feet and beat Shields standing. However, for anyone to say that GSP is immune to Shield's sweeps or subs is pretty oblivious to Shield's skill level on the ground.

What the fuck do Royce and Ceser have to do with eachother? Do you really think Ceser gives a fuck if Royce lost to Hughes or not?

There is no doubt in my mind that Shields can beat Matt Hughes.
This is a great interview and Cesar is a cool mother fucker.
He was totally respectful and said what he thinks.
I'm not saying Shield WOULD beat Hughes, I'm just saying he could very well defeat Hughes.
What did you guys want Cesar to say?
O yea, Hughes would kill my boy?

Where did I say that Hughes is some washed up loser dude??? Hughes is still top 5 in my book at ww he just doesn't match up well with Jake. Jake and Hughes are very similar but Jake has better cardio, BJJ and passes guard better. So if you have two guys relatively similar but one has more strengths that the other sorry I am gonna pick the one with more strengths.

By far the best quote in the thread.
Anyway Jake Shields would be competitive in the WW division and honestly with the exception of Hughes I think he trades wins with the guys mentioned in the article. He beats Hughes the majority of the time, for every reason everyone else listed on this board. With Penn and Gsp I think ability wise they're too close to one and other to say anybody would dominate anyone, but man I would love to see them fight each other. I can't wait for Jake to jump to the UFC.
