this fight should be entertaining. i think hughes will tko alves though. alves is just fast and has a powerful punch. i dont think that hughes will stand with him that long.

Well way to go Dana for salvaging something out of a what appears to be a cursed ppv main event slot. As far as how the fight goes you gotta think Hughes unless Alves can some how get stellar TDD in a month in half or Hughes gets stupid and stands with this kid. Personally I dislike Hughes so I hope he loses but I gotta think Hughes will win.

lol alves broke more of a sweat from his pre-fight warm-ups than he did in his actual fight. Alves is going to provide a huge problem for Matt if he doesn't get some quality training in. I would never count Matt out of a fight though. He's a tough fight for anyone at welterweight, even without his cardio. I still don't think Hughes will ever leap the hurdle that is GSP though.
As for Nog/Mir TUF coaches...If its true, its not going to provide much entertainment value between the fights, BUT Mir and Nog are EXCELLENT coaches. Both run their own schools and have been around MMA for quite some time. Nog might have a language barrier or two to cross... As much as it would dissapoint me that we can't see them fight for forever and a day, I can see the fighters that these two will produce being awesome. I bet, if this is true, this show can produce as many stars as the first 2 seasons did.

Awesome props all around for making this happen. This will be a great fight and we'll see whether or not Alves is ready for the big time.

I agree, Alves record at 7-2 looks good on paper until you look at who he beat. With the exception of Chris Lytle, no one else stands out. Who cares about Karo, we all know he's overrated to begin with. His only real tests were Fitch and Spencer Fisher and he lost BOTH of those. This one will be over early, Hughes by submission 2 minutes 27 seconds, round 1. Serra, be prepared, in Decemeber, you get your last taste of the the spotlight because you're next.
Now if they add Leben-Bisping as a co-main event, this thing will be worth buying. Don't be surprised if they add that too. Bisping said the other day in an interview that he wants to fight again soon and you know if they can put togeter a fight for him in England, he'd fight on NO NOTICE.

Dude Thiago was like 20 years old when he lost to Fischer in his first fight in the ufc and his only other loss is to Fitch who last time I checked is the number 1 contender. And yeah beating Karo says nothin about how much he improved because Karos just an overrated can right gimme a break Karos not as good as he thinks he is but he is a top WW in the UFC. Your sayin its crazy for anyone to think Alves can beat Hughes which is retarded. If he can sprawl and brawl he will KO Hughes if not Hughes wil prolly control him for three rounds. Im not sayin its an easy fight for Thiago but its deffinitly one he can win

It will be a good fight for a few minutes. Hughes should finish this in the second. i'm sure Hughes is in decent shape training at his new gym. For everyone thinking Alves wil beat Hughes, you must be crazy. Just a week ago, everyone was saying he was one of the top ten of all time, I would not put Alves in that conversation if i was deaf, dumb, and blind. Alves is a good fighter, but not in Matt's class, even if he is on the down side.
Putting Bisping vs Leban on the card would definitely save a card that was looking quite bleak.

Hughes is no Parisyan. his power and strenght is going to help him win this fight. Alves needs to avoid the ground by all means necessary cuz Hughes is a monster.
i see this fight being like the Lytle/Hughes fight somewhat. Alves has a better chance though than Lytle.

If Hughes sticks to his bread and butter, it should be an easy win for him.
If Hughes decides to engage in some stand up battles, I don't see it ending well for him.
Hughes round 1 TKO via GNP, maybe early round 2 TKO via GNP.

I also see this fight going alot like Hughes/Lytle if Hughes wins but I don't think Hughes camp is good at all so I will go with Alves in this one. I know Hughes is a legend and deservedly so, but after his last couple of fights I just don't think he has it anymore.
