i train.
got into the sport like 2 years ago about, and ive been absolutely hooked. as a kid, i used to get into a lot of shit like a fad, but martial arts has always been a big deal to me, especially now that im a fan of a sport based on all of them.
i live and breathe this sport, its the greatest in the world in my mind, and even if i never get the chance to go pro and be a huge part in that way, i'll stay devoted to this sport for the rest of my life.

I am a die hard MMA fan.
I never trained or participated in any martial arts.
I became a fan when my brother showed up to my house with this tape, he said "you got to see this", this is cool.
Before this I grew up watching boxing, my father was a big boxing fan, so as a kid I saw some of the great fights like Hagler/Leonard.
I also become a pro wrestling fan, after that I started watching some muay thai boxing which was amazing to watch, way better than regular kickboxing.
Then when my brother showed me this UFC event, it was like I was watching a snuff film, I have to tell you, this was before the internet and I was more innocent back then, since then I have seen so many bad things it makes UFC1 look like the smurfs.
What attracted me most was the ground submissions.
Never saw anything like that in any Bruce Lee movies and wondered if what I was watching was real.
Of course it got banned up here in Canada and had no way to watch UFC events by that time it seemed the sport was dead, then I was reintroduced to MMA when my brother recored a Pride event featuring Nog vs. Sapp.
Then from there I started watching the UFC again and everything Pride.
Thats it, I don't know what type of fan I am but just love everything MMA..

Well I saw the first couple UFC's..... thought they blew. First one I watched since then was UFC 37 and that got me hooked. Penn, Salaverry, and Busta were my favourites and when Busta left the UFC for PRIDE I followed him over there. After finding out that he and Chuck were fighting on a card I decided to watch (I forget if I actually ordered the PPV or found some other way of watching) and I loved it. I ordered the second round of the grand prix 3 months later and that is where I saw Nog pull off the win against Cro Cop out of nowhere. Thats really how I started watching MMA
As for the training I have taken BJJ classes and Judo classes but never accomplished much in either. I took some boxing and TKD as a kid but "casual fan" definatley is the one for me. I do love this sport and will be a fan of it for the rest of my life.

I have watched MMA since 1991 hense the name. I train 3 to 4 times a week in MMA I ahve since 2005. I really don't have a favorite fighters because I think all of them are pretty great to watch. I really enjoy watching a good grappling match and I hate when fans Boo when a fight hits the ground. To me a stand up fight is great but I think a fight really starts once it hits the ground in alot of cases. I love watching the chess match fights.

That window of becoming elite has passed but looking forward to getting back out there with my boys in a few years.
Watched ufc way before tuf but never got that into pride just didnt like the ring.

I dont know what type of MMA fan I am.
I have boxed and wrestled, just not at the same time in any sort of sanctioned fight.
I started watching the original UFC's (from blockbuster) in 1996 or 1997. At that time I was a huge boxing fan and bought pretty much every boxing PPV that came out. Was a huge Tuesday night Fights fan.
I still buy every major boxing PPV and now every mma PPV.
I have converted my wife to a boxing and mma fan and get 0 complaints when those sports dominate the TV every Fri and Sat night. (that right there would be a big win for many people I know)
I go to many local shows and support my local fighters by buying their shirts and crap like that.
I really dont see how you can call people casual fans that spend a considerable amount of their time and money on mma. I would not think that most folks on here are casual fans, who takes the time to register, read and respond to these posts thats only casually interested?
I do not train anything any longer due to ankylosing spondylitis, but would like to. Probably would get my neck snapped doing BJJ, and possibly even from boxing nowadays.

I train 3 times a week in BJJ and Muay Thai, but I don't have plans to turn pro since I already have a career (I'm a doctor). I've been watching MMA since 1996 and since then I'm a huge fan. I was training in kung fu at that time, and then I focused in my carrer until 2005, when I started training in BJJ and Muay Thai.

So if I'm understanding the OP correctly here;
a "real fan" hangs out in gyms and trains MMA and goes to smokers,
a douche fan hangs out in Gyms and wants to be like the first guy,
and everyone else is a Noob fan who only likes MMA since TUF 1.
I'm just taking a wild guess here, but your the first one aren't you.
I dont think I'm even on that list though because I wouldn't be seeing "never back down" in a theater.
In fact I'll probley skip it on DVD too.
