The problem is, when millions of yahoos are the fanbase, the fights are promoted according to money (Lesnar, Kimbo etc. ) rather than necessarily getting the best fights shown.

So you are saying the Lesnar fight was a shitty fight? It was awesome eventhough it didn't not end how I hoped it would but it did end how I expected it to. And the reason Kimbo's fights are lame is because he is having his career ran by a boxing promoter. Boxing promoters feed their top guys cans to build them up and then only put thewm against top guys when the title is on the line. I guarantee you if Kimbo comes to the UFC he gets thrown to the wolves by his second fight. You will never see that in Elite.

amen to that, people should be happy and help to spread it not bash it and question its credibility.i'm getting tired of hearing about how UFC is to mainstream, and they make stars not fighters...thats total crap these guys are becoming mainstream popular because of the tremendous skill they possess. and if i remember correctly five or six years ago the same guys bitching about it being to mainstream are the same guys that were bitchin cause it wasnt getting enough exposure back then. make up your damn minds people,do you want this sport to be world wide or not?

the only thing i can say that i truly am eh about with MMA going mainstream is, now EVERYONE thinks they can do it. i know of at least 4 people at my work that are fixing or have had their "amateur mma" debuts within the 6 months ive worked there. and all they've ever done is box a little, with friends. but they think they can do it. i like to call them the Kimbos of my work, only 3 of the 4 are fat slobs, not very muscular black men, and the 4th is a decent shaped hispanic guy. if they were to train and treat it with respect and not just as "well, i can fight. i can do this" then i'd be alright, but they think because they got in a few fights in high school, and they watch UFC wired and figured out some submissions, they're badasses

i think idea of liking something only because it's different is a little high schoolish. i've been a fan of mma for years now and as far as i'm concerned, from a fan's perspective, this is exactly what i wanted. i wanted this sport that i love to become mainstream. i wanted the rest of the world to see what they had been missing for all these years. for those cry baby fans that want an "alternative" i suggest you check out yahmma pit fighting.
ps: what does the race of the people you work with possibly have to do with them wanting to attempt mma (successful or not). i dno, maybe i've just been reading everything extra carefully since the alleged hillary racist scandal a few days ago.

Agreed fully, couldn't really state it better, and rep'd.
About the earlier comment about everyone thinking they can do it ... I think it's beautiful for "regular people" to train MMA, so long as they don't believe they can just walk into the UFC. If they are doing it for love of the sport, fitness, socializing, enhanced appreciation, self defense, even amateur local competitions, I think that's a cool thing.

I didn't mean to imply that is was a crappy fight. Its just that money was the motivator for the promotion. The title fight was not the main event. There has to be a balance where enough money is enough. Can it really be good for MMA when the main event is centered around a guy with 2 fights who is getting paid more than all the other fighters?
That makes fighters bitter. Is that good for MMA? It is not Lesnar's fault. It is a direct result of the promtion to the masses. It just needs to be balanced before they start showing Texas brass-knuckle barbed wire cage matches,

exactly,at one point in time all fighters were "regular people" until they saw something that appealed to them and decided to give it a go and became what they are today. randy couture wanted to be an olympic skiier when he was younger, rampage was a thug street fighter before he found a sport he could apply his skills in.

CO2's point was, I believe, not with fighters who wanted to get into MMA and devoted themselves to learning it, training, discipline, work, etc....I think his issue was with guys who, with almost no background, step into a cage on an amateur level and fight.
And I agree, that is a way way bad idea. That's just asking for trouble, and puts them basically on the level of a Toughman contestant.

That article is lame. I find it hard to have sympathy for the poor lost wandering homeless souls it describes. I guess they'll just have to go to Yamma.
