For what could be a fairly good predictor of how MMA will do on mainstream TV, how has boxing (say in the past 20 years) done on it? Has it even been on it? I don't really no, which is why I ask.

It might be able to give someone a general idea, or guess on how it might do.

Given the time slot (Saturday night), something in the 6's would be pretty good. Yeah other programs do quite a bit better, but things like 60 Minutes and CSI are in primo time slots. Sat night is a crappy time slot for most things, so expectations are more reasonable.

I used to have a source that showed this better, but I dont have time to do too much poking around right now. However, according to this:

Strong Return for Saturday Night Live - 2/25/2008 1:40:00 PM - Broadcasting & Cable

For something like SNL, a rating of a 6 is considered VERY strong. Granted it comes on a bit later, but it gives a good general indication.

EDIT: Oh, here is a good source:

TV Ratings Saturday September 29, 2007

Saturday night football (must be a college game) got 4.3 million viewers in the slot that EliteXC is going into. So if they get a 6 rating, that would be great.

If CBS or anyone else think Elites will be the next CSI in rating they are crazy.
The rating should be 1 to 2 million if they are lucky, and if they do those kinds of numbers thats great for Elite, not so good for CBS, although hey are putting it on the lowest rated night on TV, Saturday's are dumbing grounds for repeats and the movie of the week and in the case of CBS their news show "48 Hours".

And you can go out and watch it on network t.v. as well. Or since it is free you can afford to have everyone come to your place and have a MMA party?

It will most likely bomb. When was the last time a boxing match did much of anything on national TV? It undoubtably has a bigger following than MMA, and you almost never see boxing on national TV. ESPN does not even run their Tuesday Night Fights hardly anymore.
A UFC payperview would probably pull the same knid of numbers RAW does on USA if it was on FOX or NBC.

If someone like a Ken Shamrock fights Kimbo in the ME I could see them pulling a 3. However, in the long run I'd agree, I just don't see them doing that well

I think it will blow the 3.1 by the UFC out of the water on its first shot. although spike is pretty much a basic cable channel there is probably twice as many houses that have cbs with thier cable than spike. Im guessing it hits somewhere in the 4.5-6 range for its first show and more thereafter. This will be huge IMO for Elite.
