I'd have to agree...if Jardine beats Wanderlei Silva that changes the picture. I'd give him a title shot after that too.
But if Wanderlei beats Jardine, especially if he beats his ass, and Chuck beats Shogun, Chuck is #1 in line (after Forrest). Even if it's going to be his third at-bat against Rampage, that's what it's got to be. He'll either regain his belt or forever fall out of title contention.

if chuck wins and jardine loses.... i honestly think that chuck should get the nod. Although it's a bit unfair considering Jardine has to even fight wand to get that title shot.
If jardine wins his fight and even if Chuck destroys shogun, jardine still should get the nod.
However did anyone think of the scenario of if wand and shogun wins? Who should be the next LHW contendor? I personally think shogun in that case.
Basically, these two fights are huge to determine the #1 contendor.

if Chuck wins he is either the #1 or #2 contender no way around that, but it is very hard to argue against Jardine IF he beats Wandy. Having beat Chuck and destroying Forrest and then beating Wandy even with the loss too Alexander, Keith would still be the most deserving IMO. But either way Chuck is the biggest draw so more than likely he gets the shot.

Agreed, agreed and agreed.

In that scenario, I'd have Shogun fight Lyoto Machida (win or lose against Tito - this is assuming Lyoto is in fact Tito's last fight in the UFC) to determine the top contender.
Chuck has earned a title shot after "only" defeating #4 and #3 LHW in the world. He's earned it by virtue of the years he dominated the LHW picture in the UFC, beating down all comers. Neither Shogun nor Wanderlei have earned that in the UFC, and therefore still would need to fight another top contender, IMO, before they get a title shot.
My main point is - you can always name another top contender a guy has to fight before he gets a title shot. If you keep playing that game, nobody ever challenges for a title. Chuck has less "proving" to do, and I'd say beating the #4 and #3 LHW's in the world would be sufficient; while others have more "proving" to do.

that is exactly what I've been trying to say, maybe I've had one too many.

if chuck beats shogun he for sure should be next in line for a title shot. before jardine beat chuck he lost to houston alexander by tko so why should he be next?

It depends on who wins between Griffin and Rampage. If Griffin wins and Liddell beats Shogun and Oritz beats Machida, then ya he gets the shot. However, if Rampage wins then the winner of Oritz v. Machida or Jardine if he wins is the number one contender. Liddell has been beaten by Rampage twice pretty decisively. There is nothing to show me that a third time will be any different. Plus if I am Rampage I would be pissed that Liddell gets a third crack at him. So what if this time Liddell gets Rampage with a lucky shot. Then does Rampage get an auto rematch?

Right, this is another aspect of my argument. You can always name another guy that some contender seemingly "has" (quote-unquote) to beat before he gets a shot. If you keep playing that game, nobody ever gets a shot.
So for example if the argument is that Chuck needs to defeat Jardine, who decisioned him, before he gets a title shot, how could you argue that Jardine would need to beat Alexander, who obliterated him, before he gets a title shot?
Answer: there's always "another guy" to beat, so you just draw the line somewhere. In the case of Chuck, if he beats Shogun and if Wandy beats Jardine, I draw that line at Chuck needing to fight Jardine again.

I don't believe in lucky shots.
If/when Chuck gets a shot at Rampage, and if/when Chuck were to beat him, Rampage would need to fight to get back to Chuck just like Chuck has had to do.

What about if Machida beats Oritz, which by the way I am picking Ortiz. I would argue that Machida deserves a shot before Liddell if this happens.
