Fitch may equal Royce
American to fight this Saturday at UFC 82
Considered one of the greatest challengers for the welterweight belt, the American John Fitch (15w and 2l) is seen as the greatest revelation in the UFC category. The wrestler will enter the octagon this Saturday in Ohio at UFC 82 to challenge Team Quest representative Chris Wilson, who is coming off of a four fight winning streak. John holds a series of triumphs even more impressive than that of his opponent, as he has won all seven of his fights since arriving in the organization.
Only one man holds a more expressive winning streak than Fitch (which may be equaled this Saturday). That man is none other than UFC hall of fame legend Royce Gracie. The Brazilian won eight in a row, all by submission in only three UFC shows (1, 2, 3), having had three fights during the first event and four during the second. The title of definitive champion of the category will be disputed in Canada at UFC 83 between Georges Saint-Pierre and Matt Serra. According to rumors, Fitch would be next in line to challenge the winner of the bout, should he beat Chris Wilson.

Nice find. I really hope Fitch wins because he is a good fighter that really hasn't gotten his dues for what he has accomplished so far in the UFC.

That is impressive.
Of course, it's somewhat misleading, because the way it's worded, you might be forgiven for thinking Fitch is shooting for an MMA record, not a UFC record as is the case.

Really? Fitch is next up?
I'd have Jon fight Marcus for #1 contender. Jon may have had 7 wins, but he has been shaky and unimpressive at times.

This is pretty cool... and Fitch is fighting fighters who actually know what BJJ is.

I'm going to have to disagree with you on this one. I think Fitch and Karo are clearly ahead of anyone else for a title shot. Fitch's wins have been much more impressive and against better competition than Marcus Davis has faced IMHO.

I am just not on the Fitch bandwagon. I think GSP would wipe the floor with him. Maybe thats why I just don't see what the hype is about. I think it shows how slim the UFC WW div. is.

With 8+ of the world's top 10 WW's according to any reputable list, and probably a dozen or more of the top 15 WW's, how thin can the UFC WW division possibly be?

Fitch is in no way equal to Royce. would he beat Royce now? yes. but you cant make a comparison like that. Fitch's 7 straight UFC wins have come over the course of a couple years, and Royce's over several months and blocks of them happening in one night. not saying Fitch couldnt do that, but he hasnt. let him have his well earned title shot, see if he can beat GSP, and then we can start talking like this. until then Royce is a legend whose legacy in on another level then John Fitch's.
