Its not racist man.... it was a freakin joke from the movie 16 candles....
So because it was in a movie it is OK... So he can call Anderson Silva...Sambo and Rashard Evens Kunta Kente. I bet you money there would be a problem if he had said anything like that but sense it is against Asians it is OK!?!?!
nobody said it wasnt funny.
but Dana is a businessman, and he just insulted an entire race. a race that actually makes up a majority of the entire population of the Earth, to make a point that he doesnt like Fedor because he didnt sign with the UFC.
it was childish and incredibly racist.
I agree with everything you said in this thread...
and just a side note, not only did he insult an entire race.. but a race that is a huge part of the MMA fan base.
Don't you guys understand that MMA is still called Human Cock fighting, still not legal in certain states.. you don't think those people would jump all over comments like that? Does the sport need its head person (lets face it, that is what Dana is) making jokes about a race. Joke or not.... no spokesman for ANYTHING would/should make a joke about a race..
It was a dumb move, joke or not. Come on guys... be sensible.
This is unprofessional and it definitely has racist tone to it. Don't get me wrong. I will be the first to admit racist jokes are the funniest kind of jokes. But this occasion is stupid and wrong. Dana White isnt a comedian and he just knowingly stereotyped an Asian person. Should Dana get a free pass because we expect so little class from him? Ok, then I don't want to be banned from here for being an asshole because that's who I am. It is an absurd argument. Dana White made a dumb comment and that's that.

getting them to respond is not the same as making Asian noises, or referencing another random asian because his name is also 3 syllables.
HHAHAHAHA what are Asian noises?? Do Asians make different kind of noises than other races? Something funny...I call my buddy Mr Thai the Chinese food guy, since well.. he is Chinese, and owns a Chinese restaurant.... He calls me Mr Round Eye... which is funny shit to me...
So are me and my bud racist against each other, or are we just making jokes?

You're no different from anyone else- we all make racist jokes to people close to us. Why? Because they can be funny, obviously. But there's a difference between what we say to our pals and what a professional (who isn't our pal) says. If it seems like a double-standard, it kind of is. But that's just the way it is; It's cool if you call your Chinese friend Mr. Thai (even though Thailand isn't part of China ), but it's not cool if, say, President Bush were to call your friend Mr. Thai. Hell, we criticize Bush for saying less!
I don't think it's out of line for us to expect public professionalism from Dana White, just like I don't think it's out of line to make some light-hearted racial remarks to people you know in privacy.

I don't know if Dana meant this to be racist or not, that's something only he would know.
However, I guess the one thing he definitely did do wrong is make a silly comment like that in the society we have today. A lot of people find a lot of different things offensive. Me personally, I don't mind jokes like that, and as I've said before....if someone called me a greasy Italian or made fun of me liking spaghetti I'd probably laugh. But not everyone is like that.
you can always say what you want to your friends
i call my friends things that would get me stabbed by other guys.
and Asian noises are the nonsensical fucking gibberish sounds people will make in order to mock all Asian languages at once.
everyone here knows what i am talking about.
and thats fine, if you know someone Asian and you guys talk shit. whatever.
Dana isnt friends with HMC.
I dont think the comment was racist or funny. He was just making a movie reference and it wasnt funny and definately wasnt racist. If you think that the comment was racist then dont ever watch 16 candle cuz you would just be perpetuating the joke. Why is it OK for a movie to make millions of dollars off of the name but Dana is a racist for saying it?
Quite frankly everbody is getting too damn sensitive.
