Default So is Mir back?

Is Mir back on his game now. Is this the old Frank Mir. What do you think we can expect from him? Could he beat Nog?

To me he looked cool as a cucumber. That was one of the smoothest sweeps right into a knee bar. I just watched it a few more times... he hooks his leg first to put it in position and comes around with the sweep... flawless technique IMO. it is hard to tell against a guy with very little jiu jitsu.

To me he looks like the best BJJ HW. I'd like to see him against Nog and Lesnar against big Tim. Stylistically I think those will make for great fights.

I think that hammering he took woke him up,I think the fear of being a cripple or a retard kept him from really fighting like he used to. Last night I believe he saw that after a good beating he was still there and could compete. Honestly I didnt thik he would pull it off, most wrestling vs BJJ fights end with the wrestler pulling out of subs and GnPing the Bjj guy. Mir kept his composure through it and prevailed,Good for him I always liked Mir.If you watch WEC hes a fight genius he says whats coming next in a fight all the time

I don't think that anyone outside of Mir and NOG's could sub Lesnar.

People are writing this off as Lesnar was just 1-0.

Lesnar is a fucking beast and I don't think anyone could have worked out of the position that Mir worked out of last night.

i dunno for me its hard to say.. I give Mir credit for weathering a hell of an opening storm. I mean he should have beaten Brock, he was supposed to beat Brock. Simply because of Brocks inexperience.. Im not knocking Brock.. I think he will likely rule the division one day. Just not right now.. To me it was kinda like a kick ass amature boxer with all the talent in the world fighting a former champ like Pernell Whitaker in his first real fight.. So i dunno that i can say Mir is back. I think a lot of folks thought he would sub Brock one way or another.. If he is back, i would love to see him and Nog fight at some point..

Interesting to see where it goes from here. We didn't see enough of Mir's standup, nor his cardio, to really see where his all-around game is right now. Nor could we really see enough of his wrestling, because against Brock Lesnar pretty much anyone is going to look overshadowed there.

He has among the best JJ of any HW in the world, that I believe. Better than Nog? No, probably not, but he can be mentioned in the same sentence.

Also, agreed that the entire fight, from the walk-in through the takedowns through getting pounded on by Lesnar, he stayed very cool and methodical, a trait he shares with Horn, Nog and other great ground specialists.

But without knowing more about his wrestling, current standup skills, and current cardio, it's hard to say where he fits in the HW picture these days.

But either way, as a fan who mourned the "untimely" departure from the title picture of Mir just like the "untimely" departure of Evan Tanner, I really hope Mir decides to stay "back" and decides to give it everything he has. I think he's a very exciting HW.

i believe Mir is back. and i also believe Mir was in shape for this fight. they say the better shape ur in, the better cardio you have...and Mir seemed to recover very well and kept calm during that early storm Lesnar brought upon him. i think if he did fight Nog, it would come down to the stand up cuz i dunno if either would get subbed on the ground. id love to see that fight one day!

as far as Lesnar, he looked great in defeat. he'll probably go on a tear his next few fights...and im predicting that within 24 months he'll at least be fighting for the title. mark my words

This is a very good summary of the situation. Everything looked good for Mir but until we see him in another fight or two we can't be completely sure.

As people should write it off as that.

That sub imo came from inexperience.

And Werdum has better bjj then both Nog and Mir.

And I don't think Mir is back, I don't really think he left. He was fighting lesser comp, an now he is getting beat, an no has some wins. Good for him but how is he going to fair against someone he can't take down.

Mir is good, fun to watch but i still think he needs to cut about 10-20 more pounds an work on his cardio a little more.

I definitely think so. His cardio is going to be the biggest factor, especially if he starts going up against more top HWs.

I've personally enjoyed seeing Mir sub his last two opponents, but they were A) a kickboxer with zero ground game and B) a dominant wrestler with admittedly unlimited potential, but with precious little experience.

Its too early to call. He needs to either rematch Sylvia next or fight a truly well-rounded HW for us to really gauge where he's at.

In any case, WAR Mir.
