Jason MacDonald Dissatisfied with UFC 84 Fight with Joe Doerksen
Posted by MMA Junkie on January 21, 2008 at 2:30 pm ET
Popular Canadian fighter Jason MacDonald (19-9 MMA, 3-2 UFC) says he’s officially signed on to fight Joe Doerksen (39-11 MMA, 1-5 UFC) at the UFC’s April 19 event in Montreal, Canada. He’s just not very happy about it.
MacDonald, a middleweight who earned the nickname “TUF Killer” when he opened his UFC career with victories over reality stars Ed Herman and Chris Leben, talked about the fight in his recent column for sportsnet.ca.
As MacDonald wrote, he sees no reason to fight an opponent he already (decisively) beat once before.
“I have no idea where this matchup came from,” MacDonald wrote. “This is certainly nothing I asked for, having beaten him before in 2005. Usually when you have a fight in your career and you beat someone — unless it’s a controversial one or one that was left in the hands of the judges — you move on.
“But it’s not my job to pick my fights and decide who I face. If the UFC decided this matchup is best for their business and for my career, then so be it.“
MacDonald mentioned that he’d have rather been matched up with a fighter such as Evan Tanner, Michael Bisping or Ricardo Almeida.
Instead, he’ll take on Doerksen, a fellow Canadian and former UFC fighter who earned a ticket back into the organization as a late replacement for Dave Terrell at UFC 78. Doerksen then suffered a third-round knockout to Ed Herman, dropping his overall UFC record to 1-4.
Doerksen first fought MacDonald at an October 2005 United Cage Wars event in Winnipeg. MacDonald scored a fourth-round submission (via rear-naked choke) in the night’s main event.

I agree with him, this matchup makes little sense to me. I'd rather see him fight Big Dog.

I understand his frustration. MacDonald's still got a good future in the UFC...I think he's about a rung or two above journeyman status. It just seems like an insult to have him fight Doerkson, a guy who just got KO'd by Herman, who Mac beat in his UFC debut.
Oh, and Jmac by sub, R1.

Yeah I dont really see any sense in him fighting Doerksen again specially after Herman knocked his ass out and MacDonald choked Herman out, they should of seen if Terrell would be ready but I guess you cant count on him.

Did anyone stop to think that maybe Joe Doerksen asked for this rematch? I find it hard to understand how someone who is 1-4 in the UFC could ask for a certain match but thats the only way it makes sense to me.

Im shocked how many are counting Doerksen out of this. If it werent for the bell,he woulda won the fight with Herman, and hes a talented vet that can give anyone trouble.
Much like I did with Rivera,Ill bet on Doerksen for the old dog to learn a new trick, and whoop some ass

Its sorta like when Jardine complained about fighting Alexander. Although I don't see Joe winning nearly as fast or as in the same fashion but I do see Joe wining this fight in the 3rd round.
