It was his 4th fight. Fight finder does not list his fight again Potvin. Wiki and a few other list that fight, but for some reason Fight finder don't list it.
It was both Werdum and Gabes 4th fight.
Werdum has also much improved since that fight.

Here goes a conspiracy theory...
I really believe the fight with Randy, was going to be GG's. I think Randy new he had to fight smarter, which he did.
No disrespect to randy, The guy is great and you have to love him. But, I think he got lucky with the hit on Tim, who sucks. Tim wins fights on size. That's it. Others don't know how to deal with it and they end up losing. I really do believe this. Randy got a lucky punch on a guy that towers over him. That killed Tim's confidence and when it went to the ground, Randy is a much better there, as we all know. the rest of the fight was over because Tim was destroyed mentally. "How did this little guy get inside on me?" the first win has to come upstairs, and tim fell a long way down.
Next comes GG. A well rounded fighter, but young. I think randy landed on him they way he did intentionally with the hopes of smashing his face, or as he did, breaking his nose. Randy has been around Too long to have this happen on accident. The man has wrestled to long, fought too many times and slammed enough people to know what he is doing. Head butts are illegal, but "accidents" happen and are allowed. randy set this up and executed it perfectly. gabe is young and has probably never fought with a broken nose. he didn't know what to do, has never experienced this and panicked. costing himself the fight.
randy won. n o doubt. A little dirty? I think so, but legal. Randy has to fight smarter. He has said it himself being 43 and all. he is naturally slowed down, lost strength, and his reflexes have dulled. But his mind is sharp. In take nothing from him, he has had an incredible career. the fight with Fedor (if it happens) will be technique vs wit. Randy gets far too much credit for beating Tim, who I doubt would even be fighting if he were 6 inches shorter, and a dirty slam.
I think Gabe is the real deal and has a big future. He will be hard to topple now. I think that lose will end up being very instrumental for his future. Perhaps the greatest lesson in his career so far. we always learn so much more from defeat than domination.

While we're on the subject, let's just discredit Rampages slam on Arona in PRIDE... It wasnt the powerbomb that KO'd Arona, it was Rampages huge ass melon colliding with his. "Accidental" headbutts happen in most combat sport, like kickboxing, boxing etc... This is why I think headbutts should just be legal as they are in Vale Tudo.
Anyway, I like how you tried to discredit Randy's wins....Randy is a great fighter regardless of age. Randy is probably one of the smartest fighters out there.

How can you call his shot on Tim lucky? He landed the shot multiple times. He had a great strategy for a tall fighter.. What he did wasn't luck.. it was well planned. How Randy threw his punches is great way to trade with a tall guy.. trust me on that.. Randy played his cards right..
It is well documented that Gabe smashed his face with his own knee. So please.. get off of that excuse. Not only did Gabe smash his own face.. but his ILLEGAL fence grabbing was a big reason why it happened.. It is a lot easier to slam a guy who he is using all his weight to grab onto something as opposed to staying on his feet.. Randy scooped and slammed Gabe like how he scooped and slammed Liddell.. Grabbing the fence won't save you from a slam..
I am sorry, but that was a poor post.

Any Team Link fighter has a fan in me. Team Link is the best thing to come to Western Mass since basketball. I think Gonzaga will rebound from the Couture loss and beat Werdum. If he has an impressive showing I'd love to see him fight Nogueira.

Unless it is a title situation.. I can't see Nogueira and Gonzaga fighting, I am pretty sure they are friends

The slam on Arona was clearly the force of impact and not landing right. that slam and this one are complete opposites of the spectrum.
I agree accidents happen, and there is no way to prove one way or another, but intentions in this could easily be hid.
I agree head butting should be allowed.
and I certainly agree he is a great. But the smarts is what sets him apart. I'm not discrediting anything. I just don't think it's physical domination over these guys, just smarter fighting. It is still a win, and in the end that is all that matters. I never said he wasn't great. That's not what the post is about. I think he had a couple good breaks and it has been blown out of proportion with everyone and their brother jumping on his jock.
That's my opinion, like it or not.

If his shots were so great, why couldn't he finish the fight? He had a good strategy yes. But shots like that in the first 15 seconds of a fight are not pure skill, but a lot of luck. I guess Houston has good strategy also? he was panned for what he did. but at least he finished his fights. after the initial blow, tim's confidence was shattered, and that made Randy's job all the much easier.
Randy's head was on top of his nose the entire trip down. He tried to grab the fence but there was no resistance on the way down. his attempt to grab had was nothing more than an attempt.
and I have never heard of his leg hitting him crap. I have watched it several times and randy's head is on top of his nose.
Just because I don't agree with you and don't have X-thousand posts, doesn't make the post poor. It's my opinion. I think randy did it on purpose and it panned out.
and to get back on track, since I did waiver a bit, I do think GG will be a future champ and I think he will be a force to reckon with in the years to come. He is still young and has nothing but upside. Now if only some of Randy's smarts rub off on him....
