Default EliteXC Books Kimbo Slice vs. Tank Abbott for Feb. 16 Show

Quote:
A fight between Internet-brawler-turned-MMA-fighter Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson (1-0) and early UFC fighter David “Tank” Abbott (9-13) will take place after all.

The fight, which was originally booked for October but canceled when event organizers shut down the show, has been picked up by Pro Elite, Inc., which will feature the heavyweight bout as part of its Feb. 16 EliteXC show.

The news comes from ProElite.com blogger Sam Caplan.

The fight, which has been booked for the night’s main event, airs live as part of a Showtime broadcast that kicks off at 10 p.m. ET. The show is expected to take place in Miami, Fla. — possibly at the University of Miami Arena.

Abbott and Slice were originally booked to fight Oct. 12 at a Cage Fury Fighting Championships event. Organizers of the show vehemently denied the numerous rumors of the event’s cancellation — only to officially scratch the event days later.

Many other regional organizations jockeyed for the fight, but Slice instead signed a long-term deal with EliteXC. The 33-year-old fighter made his debut with the organization — and his official professional MMA debut — with a 19-second submission (via punches) of Bo Cantrell in November.

Abbott, one of the sport’s pioneers, began fighting professionally in 1995. The 42-year-old fighter appeared in UFC events from UFC 6 to UFC 45 while making stops in PRIDE, Rumble on the Rock and other organizations. The fan favorite has had little success as of late, though, going 1-7 in his past eight fights and 3-10 in his past 13 fights.

The latest EliteXC card includes:

- Tank Abbott vs. Kimbo Slive
- Kyle Noke vs. Scott Smith
- Antonio Silva vs. TBA
- James Thompson vs. TBA

The organization will also host a Jan. 25 “ShoXC” event in Atlantic City, N.J..

its a trick, it says Kimbo SliVe

Kimbo ( /Bas) won't take the chance to stand with Tank IMO, this one is going straight to the ground

This could make for an interesting fight. It's a borderline freakshow fight at best but it might tell us if Kimbo can take a punch.

I never realized Tank was 9-13. Wow.
I don't know, it kinda seems wrong to watch Kimbo beat up an old fat guy. But hell, it's gonna be down here in Miami, so I'll go check it out.

Should be sloppy but fun...

Part of me has feeling Kimbo might actually shoot in for a takedown and work his ground game...

Part of me is really stupid eh?

I might be totally underestimating Tank here, but I think it might be a good idea to stand with him early(that's assuming Kimbo can handle a punch). Abbot will probablycome out swinging, looking for the quick KO. If Kimbo can withstand the power of Tank's flurry, it will be that much easier to take him to the ground.
I don't think Kimbo has much to worry about, he's in better shape, trains w/ Bas, and isn't he about 10 years younger than Tank, who has to be 40?

yeah, Tank could gas in the first 30 seconds of stand-up and make things a hell of alot easier for Kimbo, but he could do just the same (gas Tank out) if he takes it to the ground right away

either way, not a fight I am dying to see, but definately one I'll watch

I don't think it's really main event worthy, hell I'd about be suprised if it went past the first 30 seconds of stand-up. It should be some sort of co-main event, the second to last fight or something.

Should be a fun fight.

All Kimbo really has to do is avoid standing with Tank for the first 1 or 2 minutes of the fight, after that Tank will probably gas.

I could see Kimbo taking it to the ground, only if Tank hurts him on the feet.

Id love to see Tank knock his head off,but im doubtful itll happen.
