Here as how i think it could / eventually will happen. This will require the UFC to stay atop the mma landscape of course.
the 155ers are the most exciting fights, i love watching the heavys however there is rarely a fight that doesn't have fans boo in heavyweight fights. Once this Sherk riods thing is over, this year 2008 could be a damn good year for Sherk v.s. Bj Penn hopefully, there is Roger Huetra, Frankie Edgar, KenFlo is exciting to watch. It may only take 2008 for people to see how exciting the 155ers are and thus making the ufc think about 145ers.
Like someone else said, they can do a season of tuf for 145ers, and really you can grab say 5,6 really good fighters from around the world and put them on the show because no one really knows who the hell they are. Grab a couple of the top guys in the WEC, sign a couple of the exciting guys from japan like Kid and i think in 2009 they could have a damn good division and exciting one.
Making the division and using it, doesn't mean you are going to sell ppv's with it and it could be used similar to what they are doing with the lw division now, use the good fights to open up the ppv's, i'd way rather watch just about any 155er fight than a boring ass fight from Patrick Cote v.s. Scott Smith or something to that effect.
