"Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt Bibiano Fernandes has officially signed a contract with Fight Entertainment Group to make his K-1 HERO'S debut Sept. 17 against Norifumi "Kid" Yamamoto (Pictures), the fighter confirmed to Sherdog.com on Wednesday.
"Since last year that I was negotiating to sign with the event," Fernandes told Sherdog.com. "But I was focused on my jiu-jitsu career and then we kept postponing. 'Black Mamba' (Kultar Gill (Pictures)) trained with me for his last fight when defeated Hideo Tokoro (Pictures). The Japanese liked how he looked very much and then we redid this contact. I knew that I would fight this year there."
Liviing in Vancouver, Canada, where he trains with Gill and Jose "Pelé" Land-Jons, Fernandes said that he's training very hard for his debut in the Japanese event and guaranteed that he'd be ready to face his tough adversary at 140 pounds.
"I am focused," he said. "Already I have trained sufficiently for a long time and I will be ready to face anyone. Yamamoto is a great fighter, but I'm going there to make a great presentation and be successful."
HERO'S is expected to officially announce the bout in the next few days."
