Fighter: Kit Cope (1-4-0)
MMA.WORKSHOP: I'm here with a new edition of the Quick Talk, featuring the 1-4, Kit Cope.
Kit Cope:Actually it's 2-4, Kit Cope. And 23-1 Muay Thai Kit Cope.
MMA.WORKSHOP: Ok, whats the deal with the Tiki fight. It was ruled that you didn't answer the bell. What seemed to be the problem?
Kit Cope:The main problem was I knew zero jiu jitsu, and I hadn't wrestled in 6 years! I was told that I was fighting a kickboxer and that it would basically be a muay thai fight in a cage. When Tiki had me mounted it was the first time I had EVER been in that position. I had no idea what to do. I just took a gnarly beating and when the ref came into my corner after the 2nd round, he looked at my swollen face and made the decision for me.
MMA.WORKSHOP: Your fight with Rob McCullough, was labeled a Submission, due to strikes. Although when I watched the fight I had the impression you tapped due to injury. Do you feel the ruling should be changed? What exactly was the injury and how long did it take to fully heal? I saw you at the Gracie Open so I know your doing fine now.
Kit Cope:That ruling is a load of shite! I really don't care if they change it or not. A loss is a loss I don't want to bicker about how I lost. That's retarded. It was due to injury though. An injury that Robbie had no part in. After playin around with my new jiu jitsu game, I decided to just get up. When I got up, I already felt like somethin wasn't right. As soon as my ass hit the mat from Rob's single I rolled over to get back up and felt my ribs rubbing together. It felt like they were caught on something inside there. The official diagnosis was a Costo-Chondral separation. That means that the ribs separated from the cartilage leading to my sternum. Perty painful. It healed up in like 6 weeks, but I have a permanent lil knot there now.
MMA.WORKSHOP: Now here on the Workshop, we like to get our fans involved, particularly from Sherdog.net one of the most known MMA forums. BayAreaGuy of Sherdog.net asks: You've fought only 5 times to date. Although, all against some decent, well-known opponents. Do you believe you were thrown in there to quickly without much tune-up fights?
Kit Cope:Absolutely. To clarify again, I've fought 6 times. For some reason Sherdog doesn't count my fight in Venom where I won by gillotine. I was thrown in there pretty quickly, but the same thing happened in my Muay Thai career. I understand why they did it. They thought that since I was already known from my Muay Thai that I would be a great target for building these guys before I got the hang of it. It's good business, but they shoulda looked at it the other way around. If my body holds together, since my last 2 fights were lost due to coming apart, I'll be the one to target everyone! I'm comin for ya boys...
MMA.WORKSHOP: Prodigy of Sherdog.net asks: You were caught not to long ago for steroids, which is obviously a banned substance. Any reason why you were taking the drug, for clarification of your fans? Have you been banned from the sport for a year, if not, when is your next fight and with what organization? Of course if anything is scheduled yet.
Kit Cope:I did test positive for a substance called boldenone. It was given to me BY MY DOCTOR after my shoulder reconstruction for healing purposes 13 months prior. My test yielded 7 nanograms of the metabolites in my system. Not the substance. Metabolites are basically the trash it leaves behind. It is only detectable as low as 5 nanograms! What that means is a day or two later I would have been clean. I lost 30 pounds last year!(not conducive to steroid use) Anyway, I was suspended for 9 months pending a clean test which I did 20 days after and was totally clean. I have 1 fight right now with the AFL out of KY. We are working on a multifight deal with the AFL and a few other organizations.
MMA.WORKSHOP: Are you still going to continue to fight? Judging by when I saw you enter the gi-competition, and from the times I've seen you at the gym in Stockton with Nick and Nate. Are you working your ground game now more than anything for a return?
Kit Cope: Does the Pope shit in the woods?!?! Of course I am gonna keep fighting. I am concentrating on my ground game right now. Nick and Nate are great training partners. I am getting to the point where it's tough for good guys to sub me. Add me bustin fools right in the jibbers and it'll be even harder!
MMA.WORKSHOP: Who does Kit Cope want to fight next? Or who have you been wanting to fight? Any names you can throw out for us?
Kit Cope:Kit Cope wants to fight somebody that will stand up with him. That's who he has always wanted to fight. I understand that it's MMA and groundskills and strategy are part of the game, so I am basically improving my ground game so that I can force people to stand up with me. The only lil goofball that I really want to fight is that Flojo kid. He had a tough time with me when I had one arm and no ground game. Well abracadabra black belt boy, now I have two. come and get ya some!
MMA.WORKSHOP: You only had one fight in UFC and now one under WEC. Would you be willing to tell us how well you were paid in both organizations?
Kit Cope:I was not paid well, but as I understand it I was paid on the scale that fighters new to the organization are paid. If I would have won one of those fights, I am sure paydays would have gotten better. Dana seems to be breakin off some big chunks these days.
MMA.WORKSHOP: Most hated fighter in your opinion and why?
Kit Cope:I dunno. Have other guys said me?? hahaha. I would guess it would be either Tito or Phil. But for different reasons. Tito likes to build haters. It's good marketing. The fun fact there is that he's really a cool cat and not the jackass that everyone thinks he is. Baroni is another case. He just doesn't give a shit! And that's the truth. It pisses a lot of people off because they are jealous. Their inner monologue says 'how come he gets to be like that and I have to behave myself'.
MMA.WORKSHOP: As always, just for laughs... Who is your favorite past or present fighter, and if you could fight any celebrity, whom would it be and why?
Kit Cope:My favorite fighter besides myself, of course, is probably Nick. He has ridiculous jiu jitsu, but he likes to sock people. He has his own style of doin it and it works for him. Gotta love the attitude too. Pissed at the world! If I could fight anyone it would be Matthew McConoughy. Played a game of basketball with him once. He is just such a poser.
MMA.WORKSHOP: Any news we should know about, updates, or anything before we go?
Kit Cope:As of right now, I am nursing a blown knee. A little ACL/MCL action. As soon as that heals up I'll be fighting for the AFL. My TV show will probably be doin another season around the beginning of the year. I've got a whole bunch of other things goin on that I'm not really allowed to talk about yet, but keep up on it at kitcope.com.
Alright, well that sums it up Kit. It was great having you on, I hope we can do this again sometime. I'd have to hope you continue training hard and staying in the MMA. Your always a pleasure to watch, no matter what. If you'd like, you can thank your fans, sponsors, or give some shout-outs below. Thanks again.
PLUGS/SPONSORS/SHOUT-OUTS: Fasho! The most important thanks are for all of my fans/friends. For some reason I have the most loyal fans. It's awesome to be me. For all of you sponsors that I am currently negotiating with.....See what you're missing!
