Rumor: Liddell may fight Wandy in Dec.

Mixed-martial-arts fans got teased by a possible Chuck Liddell vs. Wanderlei Silva fight again.

Last week I learned that Silva, a longtime 205-pound champion for Japanese-based PRIDE Fighting Championships, had agreed in principle to fight Liddell, the UFC's recently dethroned champion. Despite both fighters coming off losses, MMA fans have long clamored for the bout.
Unfortunately, later that day, UFC president Dana White stated that the deal had fallen apart — because Silva didn't want to face Liddell — and that the fight would probably never happen. (Silva later refuted the claims and said he simply wanted to fight in November, rather than September, to assure sufficient training time.)

The fight was supposed to take place at UFC 76 on Sept. 22, but I've learned that Keith Jardine is expected to battle Liddell instead.

However, a Liddell-Silva bout may not be entirely dead.

Insiders now say the two fighters could possibly meet on a Dec. 29 card in Las Vegas. The UFC traditionally uses a December show to end the year with a bang, and with a fight between welterweight champion Matt Serra and former champ Matt Hughes also expected at the event, the show would do just that.

still exciting, thought it was in november according to wand. liddell should get a ko over keith so it will be good for liddell for his confidence, but wand has other plans and probably wont fight, he needs a good ko to get his confidence back, getting ko'ed by cc and hendo isnt the best for wand i hope that we see the real wand and not the unagressive wand that fought hendo.

They don't usually bring Chuck back that quickly, but it doesn't hurt to hope.

Well if things go like they should Chuck should come out of the fight in September injury free so headlining at the very end of December for the New Years weekend event would be likely. Last new years Chuck and Tito did huge numbers.

im sure they think Chuck will knock out jardine in the first round.

Plus i wondered why Chuck was fighting then when i knew Dec was the big ppv in which he should be on, same with maybe other big names like Shogun Rampage Hendo, i wouldnt be shocked at all to see 2 title fights on this card an every fight stacked up.

Yeah ..... these days the top guys in the UFC usually take 4 months off between fights.

They must be hoping that nothing goes wrong for Chuck.

I hope it happens, it would be a great fight. Looking at the history though I will wait and see. It does seem a little unlikely though due to the rumored Jardine fight

I'd bet on it happening. No way Dana lets the guy Chuck wants to fight most and a fight that would still sell a ton of PPV's just get away.
