Las Vegas, NV - World Extreme Cagefighting® (WEC™), returns to Las Vegas’ Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on Sunday, August 5, with another hard-hitting night of fights headlined by a championship doubleheader that will ignite the mixed martial arts world. In a welterweight title bout, “The Natural Born Killer”, Carlos Condit, puts his WEC title on the line against Minnesota’s own Brock Larson, and in the 185-pound co-feature, Brazilian superstar Paulo Filho squares off against tough veteran Joe Doerksen for the vacant WEC Middleweight crown.

WEC: Condit vs. Larson will be televised live on Versus beginning at 9:00pm ET/6:00pm PT. The event will be broadcast in Standard and High-Definition (HD) where available. For more information on how to view Versus, visit http://www.versus.com/findversus.

WEC: Condit vs. Larson will feature “The Natural Born Killer”, current WEC Welterweight Champion Carlos Condit, and number one contender Minnesota’s own Brock Larson.

Considered by many as one of the best welterweight fighters in the world, Carlos Condit (20-4) is back to defend his crown after defeating highly-regarded veteran John Alessio by rear naked choke. Condit has already impressed the MMA world with his well-rounded ability, which allows him to keep the fight standing or bring it to the ground at will. But he is well aware that on Aug. 5 he will be fighting his toughest opponent yet in Brock Larson.

“I respect his ability on the ground and I admire his willingness to fight anyone at anytime,” said Albuquerque’s Condit, “But I’m coming into this fight in the best shape of my life and no one has the skill or the heart that I have.”

Minnesota’s own Brock Larson (21-1) is looking to bring the WEC Welterweight crown back to the Midwest. Knowing this is the biggest fight of his career, Larson is training like never before and looking to build on his nine fight win streak. A former UFC veteran with a win over Keita Nakamura, Larson brought his aggressive style to the WEC, dismantling Erik Apple by submission in round one and smashing Kevin Knabjan in just 27 seconds with vicious strikes from the top position. Larson understands the significance of his fight with Condit, but he is coming fully prepared.

“I’ve never been scared of any opponent in my life,” said Larson, “Condit is a great fighter, but my time is now. I will be leaving Las Vegas with the belt. If he wants to stand I will stand and if he wants to take it to the ground I’ll beat him on the ground. One way or the other I’m going to punish him”.

The co-main event of the night features a highly anticipated matchup between two standout 185-pounders for the vacant WEC Middleweight Title.

Considered one of the best middleweights in the world today, Paulo Filho (14-0) will not only be making his WEC debut, but he will be looking to keep his undefeated record intact while adding the organization’s title belt to his trophy case. This former PRIDE standout holds wins over Kazuo Misaki, Ryo Chonan, and Murilo ‘Ninja’ Rua, defeating all these opponents in impressive fashion. Filho plans on thrilling American fight fans and bringing the middleweight crown back to Brazil

“I’m looking forward to fighting on a world stage and impressing the American audience.” said Rio De Janeiro’s Filho. “Joe is a well rounded competitor with strong striking, and he is in for the fight of his life come August 5th.”

MMA veteran Joe Doerksen (39-9) knows he is in for a battle when he steps into the cage against Filho. An eight year veteran of MMA, Doerksen holds notable wins over Dennis Kang, Chris Leben, and Ed Herman, and would like to add another big win (and a championship belt) to his already impressive resume.

“I know Filho is considered one of the best middleweights on the planet, that is why I’m training harder for this fight than any other fight in my life, said Canada’s Doerksen. “I’m excited to prove to the world I’m still a force in MMA. Filho hasn’t fought someone as well rounded as myself, and I’m going to look to finish him early in the fight”.

Carlos Condit vs. Brock Larson fight should be rad. Larson looked like a BEAST the last time he was on. Anyone see how he (LITERALLY) pounced on the poor little cub they set up against him last time? Condit's got his hands full.
